AC repair
 

Our AC just went out and we have an Old Republic protection plan. Per there plan, they choose the repair company for us and are using Watkins Air & Heating. Any one know this outfit? I can not find any information at all on them.

Although I have not personally had any dealing with Watkins Air & Heating I have dealt with several home warranty companies over the years. You are correct that most if not all of them pick who they use to make the service call. I also found out that they also will choose which equipment manufacturer they will use in the event they are faced with replacing the entire unit. Many of the manufacturers you will never have heard of before. They are under no obligation to replace the unit with the same brand you now have. The warranty company is only required to match the size of the unit (btu's) and efficiency rating (SEER). There are also quite a few items that are not covered by the warranty that may be required in the event of a unit replacement. I was quoted several hundreds of dollars in uncovered items that the expected me to pay out of my pocket.....most of which were unnecessary. I mention all this so that you are aware and pay careful attention to what your policy covers and what is not covered. Many Home Warranty companies have gotten a very bad reputation for these practices. Not to say Republic is in that category but it is worth keeping in mind as you proceed with your claim.
