" Element On" light on stove
 

Was wondering if anyone has had the light stay on indicating that a burner is on, even 48 hrs after you've turned it off. I've unplugged it twice hoping it would reset itself or something, but that didn't work. I can't get it to go off. No warranty anymore. Any suggestions please?

If you no hammer, 6 iron.

There are few ways this light could be turned on.
1. An extra contact on the burner control switch, which would me a new switch, after you were able to figure out which switch is bad.
2. A current sensor that feeds into the range control system, probably out of luck, as you may or may not be able to get this part, and installation will not be straight forward.
3. there might be a relay (operates when a burner is turned on) that could be stuck.

You could try searching Google or youtube for additional help. In any case this is not typically a Do It Yourself, unless you are really handy have some experience and all of the proper tools. Also, stoves are typically 240 vac connections and high power. Best to leave to the professionals.

Personally I would suggest one of the appliance repair services, I have used Beck's and was very pleased.

Looks like it involves replacing one of the switches in this particular case.

You'll either have to call an appliance repair person to fix, or looks like a fairly easy do it yourself job. In either case, these videos help to determine what might be wrong so that you can at least be prepared.

Mine wouldn't come on. I thought the bulb was burned out.
I have an appliance service contract so I called them. The guy found it wasn't the bulb. The thing had fallen down so you couldn't see the light. I'm afraid you are going to have to get someone who can open up the back of the stove to see what's wrong.

Wow, after watching that video, I will be calling a professional! Thanks to everyone for replying.

If your oven has a steam clean feature and you recently used it that could be creating the problem. I had an oven that wouldn't turn off unless I flipped the circuit breaker. Turns out the steam from the oven cleaning process was giving the temp control a false reading. Once it dried out the problem corrected itself - never used the steam clean feature again!

Unless I missed it....did you say whether the burner was in fact on as well or just the indicator?

If the burner functions normally then there is an indicator light sensor of some sort.

Assuming the burner does work, put a pan of water on the burner and bring to a boil. Turn off the burner and leave the pan on the burner for it all to cool down.
Just a wild guess but starnger electronics issues have resolved by trial and error.

None of the burners are on. It's just the indicator light which could mean any one of the 4 burners. They are all cool. Yes, I bet it's a sensor so I'll have to call someone when I get tired of seeing the light on.
