Pavers vs Acrylic Pool Deck
 

We are having a pool installed and can't decide whether to use pavers on the deck and coping or go with an acrylic coolcrete finish.Any advice anyone could provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

They use pavers at all the Rec pools, I have them they give a great non slip surface.

What ever you do, make sure it is NOT slippery when wet. I have no experience with pavers, but I know the coatings for concrete can be made non slippery by adding SHARK GRIP. I had both my driveway and lanai & birdcage concrete coated and the shark grip was used, and neither are slippery.

Nova, were your pavers laid on concrtet , crushed concrete or sand?

I did about half on concrete, the other on sand/dirt.

The concrete base is less maintenance.

Have you had the pavers sealed? I ask the question as I see many discussions with regard to driveway pavers being sealed. It occurred to me that the sealing process could make the pavers slippery.

My daughter has pavers on sand and hates them! She gets them sealed but had problems with sinking sand when pressure washed also problems with little bugs between them and weeds. She wished she had done it all with concrete.

I have pavers now for 4 years ---we hate them --had them sealed twice

still sand all over the place ---ants eat their way up through the sealed seams --
Thinking of having them removed for concrete and cool deck

We are building a new house. Met with Jason at Nickel Tile LSL today and looked at a porcelain tile designed for outside that looks like wood. Planning on using it on the front porch and in the lanai.

Either going to go with the tile or the patterned concrete from Go Concrete in the birdcage and around the pool.

I did seal them, the trick is the correct sealer.
Forgot the brand but I still have some left if anyone needs to know what to use.

Not slippery at all.

Has anyone heard of something called "knockdown" finish, often used around pools?

We had Pooters do pavers and coping over the cool deck. Awesome. Not slippery and we do not seal the lanai area or driveway. 3 years and looks great.

We had a pool for years when all of our kids were at home. We had a river rock pool deck. We loved it because it was a non slip surface, attractive and never any standing water. It was in a fenced yard without a bird cage, so no sun protection. We only had it resealed about every 5 yrs.

Fast forward and here we had our lanai and front entry done in Chatahochee River Rock, for all the same reasons. It looks great, non slip, attractive and no standing water. It was the first thing we had done to our home and love it.
