Emoticons (smilies) not working on this site

My emoticons haven't worked on this site for several months.

Anyone else having this problem?

I have sent messages to the people who run this site, but no relief.

I can manufacture a wink sign by using a semi and a ...ummm thingy. But I can't post that guy roll on the floor laughing.

People must think I am serious all of the time.

I let my umbrella be my smile or maybe it's my raincoat. I forget how it goes.

I'm no IT expert, but try logging in to TOTV using a different browser, seems to be a typical answer from ADMIN

(later) It failed. Oh, and my letter "f" isn't working on my keyboard. The letter o the week to quit working. Didn't realize how many f's there are in the English language.

Gracie, sometimes I have just put in the words/numbers given in the emoticon menu, and it has worked; sometimes not.

For instance, :boxing2: is "boxing2." Let's see if it works if I type boxing2
this is a test. If the boxer doesn't show up, it failed.

Oh now look... My "It failed" edit ended up in the quote o your post. this is highly confusing.

When directly typing the name of the emoticon you need to begin, and sometimes end, the emoticon name with a colon. I typed the boxing2 text here using the :’s :boxing2:. Emoticons text names are also case sensitive.

Look carefully at the text format when you first select the emoticon from the list.

For example, boxing2 requires a : at beginning and end. Grin, is a : followed by D. :D

Once you know the correct emoticon text you can type it directly into your posts without having to locate & select from a list.

It all has to do with the language (javascript) this site uses to substitute the emoticon graphic when the keyword (the emoticon name) is used. The colon(s) is needed to “tell” javascript this is a code word, not a “real” word.

Thank you for that explanation. I knew I had done it before with the evil6 emoticon.
