Any insight to staying around Ft Lauderdale

We are heading down to Key West by car for a special occasion.

The drive is not overwhelming but 8 hours is pretty boring. I had the idea of staying somewhere around Ft Lauderdale for a night or two. Would be nice to put our toes in the sand again, so beach side is preferred. Does not have to be Ft Lauderdale, I just picked a place about half way from The Villages to Key West.

I can (and have been) searching around the Internet for places, but I wondered if anyone here has any direct experience.

Thanks

Delray Sands Resort, Highland Beach, FL. Beautiful views of the Atlantic ocean and located on the beach. You pass through Delray Beach, an interesting place in its own right, cross over the bridge to the barrier island and turn right on A1A.

Check it out on Trip Advisor.

Of course, if you wanted to go really upscale, there's always the Breakers, Palm Beach.

Thanks Carla B! It looks nice, will dig in deeper. Did you stay there?

We are going 'upscale for me' in Key West.

I did check out the Breakers Imperial suite. It is larger than my home here and $3450 a night excluding taxes. I could rent it for a few hours :1rotfl:

Check out airbnb We stayed at a cute place in old town. Lots of beach places available. Be sure to filter for "free parking"

Try high noon resort in Lauder by the Sea. High Noon || Home Great family owned place right on the beach. Completely renovated. Whenever we want a beach fix this is our go to place.

There is a large hotel in Port Everglades where you get beach and ocean view pool and you can watch the freighters and cruise ships going in and out

Thank you all. Looks like I have some homework to narrow down some nice places...

No, we didn't stay there but frequently ate at Latitudes, the hotel restaurant, as we lived nearby on the mainland. We went there mainly to enjoy the view of the ocean. It was formerly a Holiday Inn but has been revamped and renamed since we moved from there.

Delray Beach is a unique, walkable fun town with many restaurants on "The Avenue" (Atlantic Ave) that tees into a two-mile long public beach. If you did decide to go to Delray Sands you would take the Linton Avenue exit off I-95 to cross to Highland Beach. Atlantic Avenue is very crowded with downtown traffic. On some Thursday evenings it is closed to cars so that families can walk and enjoy entertainment.
