Were you told whooping cranes were extinct?
 

I was told that in oh, fifth grade or so. I tried to imagine them coughing because everybody already knew what a killer whooping cough was.

Anyway, the little flock that follows a plane to migrate is on the way here again and is expected at St. Marks in the big bend about december 11.

I hope school children follow along their journey and get to ask questions. You never know who will get turned on and find their passion. To answer your question, I think I was told they were extinct but I'm not certain. We didn't spend much time studying birds as I remember.

They are near extinction; very few left; they mate for life; a couple reside at the Homosassa State Park reserve. Worth the visit to see Florida state wild life.

That's about an hour away and would make a fun trip. Does anyone else want to go? We can't use my car because I have a SmartCar unless it's only one other person. Driving that car on the highway is an adventure in itself. It's like a space capsule. But I can pack a picnic basket for lunch?

I would like to go. Problem is we won't know the date until later, they are still being stalled by weather issues. Stay in touch, and maybe will make this a singles adventure.
