Were you told whooping cranes were extinct?
I was told that in oh, fifth grade or so. I tried to imagine them coughing because everybody already knew what a killer whooping cough was.
Anyway, the little flock that follows a plane to migrate is on the way here again and is expected at St. Marks in the big bend about december 11. Operation Migration |
very interesting
I hope school children follow along their journey and get to ask questions. You never know who will get turned on and find their passion. To answer your question, I think I was told they were extinct but I'm not certain. We didn't spend much time studying birds as I remember. |
They are near extinction; very few left; they mate for life; a couple reside at the Homosassa State Park reserve. Worth the visit to see Florida state wild life.
