My row boat needs some water!
Hi all. My wife and I are moving into The Village of Dunedin. I would like to bring down my beloved 15ft rowboat (made by Little River Marine in Gainesville) but do not know the rules about rowing on the lakes around the Villages. And where could I keep the boat? Any ideas will be appreciated.

Don't know the rules about lakes in The Villages, but Lake Miona has a public boat ramp. Aside from that, there are lots of lakes close by....Lakes Weir, Griffin, Harris, Eustis, Dora, come to mind. Just about every town has a lake.
If it won't fit in the garage, you could look for an storage space to rent. Assume it is on a trailer? |
I think the Canoe and Kayak Club might be able to answer your questions.

In 14 years have not seen private boats on any water area in TV.

Go north on Buena Vista to the roundabout just after Palmer Country Club to Rainey Trail, which is the third exit. Go west about a half mile and on the left is a state park, Lake Miona. They have a small beach, a fishing pier and a boat ramp. If you see the housing development Lakeside Landing, you've gone too far.
Lake Miona Park | Sumter County, FL - Official Website http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_JHkZ7H7z2m...LakeMiona2.JPG Much closer to your village but just outside the TV is Lake Okahumpka State Park. Go south on Buena Vista to Rt 44, turn east a 1/4 mile and it will be on your right. A friend of mine Kayaks there all the time. If you pass Continental Country Club you've gone too far. I think you should go gently down the stream.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm going to love this place! I am moving down from Lake Lanier, GA, where I have had the row boat at my dock for the past few years. Love to get out early on the water and watch the sun come up. But no trailer. I think I am out of luck unless I can find a way to lock it up near a shoreline.

How do I contact the Canoe & Kayak Club? I do not see them listed under "Clubs".

Lake Panasoffkee has several fishing marinas. I don't know if they rent boat slips or not.
These are true old Florida fishing camps. Lake Panasoffkee is located one exit south of the Wildwood exit on I-75. See links below.
