I used to take a date to Boblo Island then later take in The Submarine Races on Belle Isle. You never parked during the period when the police were selling field day tickets, If you got caught they would sell you tickets. Every year I ended up taking my family to Field Day.

We used to love to go to Boblo. We would 2 or 3 times every summer.

We had submarine races in Ohio also. Haven't heard that said in a long time. Thanks for stirring good (mostly) memories.

Long Gone

I lived in East Detroit, We had a guy who had a knife sharpener on a wheel barrow and would sharpen your knives and scissors---a fruit cart owned by my buddies dad, it became a fruit truck a small store then a supermarket chain. We had a paraplegic named Johnny who hired all us kids to work on his special equipped truck that sold pizza , ice cream etc. We also had the horse drawn rag cart, he wouldn't get a truck because he loved his horse all the kids on the block did too. Lastly you never called a Tradesman because all you neighbors and their sons we in the trades. My first contract was asbestos tile on a basement floor I was 12. I became a painter in high school and all thru college. Never could work behind a desk, now at 70 I miss a simpler time.
