Aftermath of Sarah rally -- non-political
 

I was at Sumter Landing today around noon. The place was almost immaculate. The only remnants of the rally I saw were the large "above the street" banners. There was almost no trash in the streets. The barricades were gone. The porta-potties were gone. It's almost impossible to believe there were 60,000 people there less than 24 hrs previously. Another job well done by TV and whomever helped.

Damn, we're spoiled.

Munc, can I ever relate to your post! Everyone in TV is so spoiled and it is so pristine (and I love it there). After spending from Oct 2007 until April 2008 in TV, what a shock to leave the bubble and return to the real world.

I had to learn to live again with teenagers with blaring music and pierced everythings. The "finger" is a very common road signal. Trash abounds in the real world. There are weeds and homeless people and road kill. When you're an "old person", young people just look through you and don't even see you. I hadn't appreciated how pleasant life in TV really is.

No point to this post, other than I can hardly wait to return to the reservation. It is true that it isn't the "real world", but it is a great one! :coolsmiley:

Ditto... I was there, as a visitor, for New Year's Eve 2006/2007 and decided to head back to the Square early on Jan. 1 and couldn't believe my eyes. If I hadn't known that there was a huge "block" party going on the night before, I would have thought that nothing had happened. It was spotless and neat as a pin. Lucky me, I leave the "real world" behind in 6 or 8 weeks and enter, as a resident this time, The Villages World!

What pleasant news.:clap2::clap2::clap2: Where are the naysayers? I get so tired of them not noticing remarkable things like this!

The numbers for Palin's Sunday September 21, 2008 rally vary from paper to paper. There is no way that there was 60,000 at that rally on Sunday.

I carefully avoided going to Market Square, not because of my politics, but because I knew it would be an absolute zoo!

I certainly question the 60,000 figure. 20,000 perhaps (as was expected), but 60,000 seems to me to be TV "puffery!"

My brother and several of his non-Villager friends went. They report no sighting of Sarah, and better than an hour just to get out of the temporary parking lot near The Waterfront Inn. I doubt that they'd go another time!

Bogie, I agree. I think that is almost physically impossible. It makes great press, though. It was a huge crowd however and :coolsmiley: thumbs up to TV for cleaning it all up so quickly.

All of these rave reviews for The Villages are making me homesick.... I'm going to go look for tickets! :a040::a040:

KUDOS to TV's for cleaning up....but why is it that our military is escorting her and the family around in our copters?? hhhmmm....perhaps I should start a new post...I don't want to highjack Muncle's post when I do agree that they (TV's) do a great job of cleaning up!

I attended the rally yesterday and there was a lot of trash thrown on the ground (water bottles and plastic cups). This morning I went to Starbucks and Lake Sumter Landing was immaculate. You would never know a major event was held there yesterday.

I'm not good at seeing a crowd and knowing how many people there are, however there had to be more than 20,000. It was packed. I also think there were many people from outside The Villages. I noticed many young people (children and young adults).

I was there and talked to a lot of people from out of state. Kentucky, Georgia, S. Carolina, Tennessee, and came just for the weekend to see Sarah. Also a lot from north and south Florida. It was totally amazing.........................Once in a lifetime experience.

As we ride around TV in our cart I'm constantly amazed at the pristine condition of the lawns, flower beds and especially the beautiful golf courses.
I feel blessed to be living here and wake up every morning thanking my higher power for the developer and all that they have created.:a040:

We went to market square yesterday and had lunch sitting on the verandah of Urban Flats and loved seeing all the people arriving, many with children in tow. We had little difficulty parking our cart in B&N parking lot and we left at 3:00 to watch the festivities on television. It was orderly and festive and I was surprised since I dislike crowds. We had fun and love the fact that we are never bored living in TV. Another surprising day in paradise.

Well, that answers one big question. I heard a hellicopter buzz over our house at at about that time. Pretty loud.
