Bicycles on sidewalks...
 

*sigh* see it quite often. Perhaps they feel unsafe in the multi-modal lane...I don't really care. If you're too afraid to ride where you belong then you don't belong on a bike. Oh, and while we're at it...wear a helmet. It might make you sweat and mess up your hair, but at least you won't be in a wheel chair steering with your chin.

Nice walk today...no fools on the sidewalk...thanks....

The 2015 Florida Statutes
316.2065 Bicycle regulations
(10) A person propelling a bicycle upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give an audible signal before overtaking and passing such pedestrian. SNIP.....

Riding a bicycle on a sidewalk looks legal to me. By the way all bicycle laws apply to Segways to.

Just the other morning
I was approaching the intersection of
To Jay's and Sonny's.When a group of about 30 bikes all decided not to stop at the stop sign. like it was their right.

Same old gripes coming up time and time again - yawn!

GOlf Carts,, Motorcycles,, Cars,, Trucks roll thru them all the time,,

This is a retirement community is it not,,, Park you cars and ride bikes,, walk,, jog enjoy life,,, you just might have to leave earlier to get your coffee spot in line at Starbucks..

Bikes on the sidewalks in the squares are not legal. But, bikes are legal on all other sidewalks.

A doctor friend of mine once chastised me for not wearing a helmet when on my bicycle. She shared a story to convince me how much protection a helmet provides. Her friend had an accident while riding, and if not for her helmet would have probably not survived the head impact against the curb. I asked how she was doing. The doctor said the impact against the curb broke her neck and she is now a quadriplegic...but she is alive. Hmm? But I still wear a helmet.

The best thing to do is come to a full stop, then look both ways, and pull out into them hitting your brakes at the last minute. They end up falling all over themselves as one of the front riders hits their brakes. It's entertaining.

A good friend of mine in TV refuses to wear a helmet (while on his motorbike) quoting similar reasons to that above. However, like you, I would not go out without my helmet on.

Nor would I ride on the sidewalk.

And coming to a complete halt at every stop sign? Moving on...

I do ride on a sidewalk if it is the only alternative to a busy narrow road.

I don't know the law in Florida but in my previous home state bicycles where illegal on side walks.

Why?

A very good friend of mine, a nationally renowned pathologist, tried out a friend's new bike. He hit a curb, was thrown off the bike, hit his head and was killed.

He rode daily for many miles and always wore a helmet. Had a number of serious accidents but never was seriously injured.
