Can you do this at all three Sumter County Offices?

I was wondering if you could get this Homestead Exemption done at all the offices listed here or do you have to go down in person to the Bushnell Office?

We just filled out the form and mailed it to the main office in Bushnell. No need to drive to any of the offices, but I'm sure you could drop it off at any one of them. Here's a link to the form:

It is too late to have it applied to your 2016 taxes, and there is a deadline to file for 2017 - March 1 according to the form.

I did it at the county building next to library in Pinellas Plaza. (route 466A) Got drivers license, registered to vote and did the Homestead exemption

Don't assume you can just drop it off. I went to the office on 466 AT 8:30 AM. I was told that the girl who does the Homestead Exemptions didn't come in until 9:30 and the receptionist refused to take the application. She said to mail it in. She definitely needed a lesson in customer service.

I would go in person to make sure everything is correct and get a receipt. I originally mailed in my form and assumed it had been processed but the office later said they never got it and I ended up having to wait an additional year.

It's also a good idea to call ahead and verify the hours, including lunch breaks, and that the person who handles them is there that day. Woe betide anyone who assumes that another person in the office will gladly process it for you!

I certainly did not assume she would process it for me but since she was sitting right outside the door of the Homestead Exemption Office I wrongly expected that she could give it to the woman when she came to work.

No, at the office on 466 where the sheriff substation is.

Can you get these forms for the Homestead Exemption at the Belvedere Library and/or Pinellas Plaza on Powell? Sumter County, FL - Official Website

I have a friend who does not seem to have her computer printer hooked up.

I thought you needed a doctor's approval, financial records and other information to file homestead exemption..

Why would you need a Doctor's approval in order to get a Homestead exemption?

CFrance 12-13-2015 11:20 AM

Does the homestead exemption need to be re-applied for every year? Or is it one and done?

Pmount 12-13-2015 03:12 PM

We just did driver license, car title transfer and homestead application at the library building at Pinellas, very smooth and quick, take two forms of ID, valid passport, social security card birth certificate---2 of the 3 needed and bills with your current address. I was impressed with great service, not impressed with The Florida welcome for first tin me car tags of about $400, but after that tags much cheaper than MN!
