Renters - use or not use my mailbox

My renters will be down Jan. - March. Is is customary to give them a mailbox key? OR should they rent their own mailbox at a UPS store or P.O.?
I don't get much mail at all - it's always junk, but some of the junk mail talks about my mortgage price and other personal things (they're looking for me to get different insurance etc.). I have my in-laws check my mailbox every so often so it doesn't fill up over time. What are my options?
Thanks in advance for your help!

h

Why can't you forward your mail to where ever u will be, then give them the key.
Seems a bit unfair for them to have the additional cost

We rented last year & the landlord left us the mailbox key. We saved whatever mail wasn't forwarded for them to pick up in April.

I forwarded our mail last year and had the renters use my box. No problem!

Renters had use of our box, too.
If it wasn't stated in your lease, they are probably assuming they will have access to the mailbox since that is their address for those months. You could state that a pro box is necessary for future rentals .

I think most renters are extremely considerate and letting them use our mailbox has never been an issue.

We rented our house for three years and never gave the key out. Actually, we never even picked up the key until we moved here in October.

We left large pre paid envelopes for every week for 10 weeks. The dog sitters mailed the envelope to us once a week except for catalogs, etc which they put in a recycling box until we returned. It was a perfect arrangement and we will do the same next year.

We rented last year and were told the owners would not provide a key. We ended up renting a PO Box in Lady Lake for 4 months which seemed to me to be a bit of an annoyance.

We provided our tenants with a mailbox key. The nice mail person at our boxes was given their name and was told they would be getting mail for that timeframe. And they agreed to hold any mail for us that they might get it, which would be minimal.

We rented for three years before buying. All landlords provided mailbox keys. Why wouldn't a landlord do that?

This sounds like an ideal solution.

I rented for 3 months and the landlord gave me a mailbox key. When I received a letter for him, I let him know and he came by to pick it up.

Unless you are receiving checks, I don't see this as a big problem. I like my privacy too but I think almost all people, don't care to read mail that is address to someone else but that's me.
