BATS in the Patio Umbrella
 

We decided to take the patio umbrella in for the winter, came home and found 2 tiny brown bats in the garage. First thought they came out of the attic and over night remembered that we brought in the umbrella. so took it out and unwrapped it, thinking the bats were inside so we opened it up and no one was inside, however when putting it back together we found another bat on the outside, inside one of the folds. All Bats were easy to get out of the house with a broom, they are sort of sleeping this time of year.

Now I'm thinking of putting out a bat house, because they eat their weight in insects every night.

Yes, we have found bats in our patio umbrella more than one. I always open it with extreme caution no. This spring there were 8 or more. Creepy.

We have colony of little bat in our CYV outside yard wall. I love nature and love watching them leave the roost in the evening and come in to roost in the morning. I watched 17 come out one evening after fledgling. I think most migrate further south. I rarely see them during the winter months. I found baby on the sidewalk early this summer. I got long stick, he climbed on and hung up side down. I maneuver him to the crack between the section of wall where they roost. He knew it was home sweet home and immediately went down the hole.

They're only creepy if you watched too many horror movies:shrug:

we had one several yrs ago that got up inside the umbrella. Needless to say, we immediately call a contractor & had a birdcage erected. Maybe beneficial creatures but no thank you

I.m afraid of bats but only four kind big, little, alive,dead

Bats were a major problem in the golf cart tunnels. I had one dong acrobats around my legs and thought for sure he was going to go up my golf shorts.

You would find many just hanging onto the ceiling of the tunnel

The property people have done well in the last few years of keeping them out, But now with posters bring to light many sightings I am wondering when my encounter will begin again?

Our dog found 3 tiny bats in our umbrella earlier this year. Although he could not reach them he "treed" them like a squirrel and we could not get him to leave his "post" and come inside. We finally had to take the umbrella down and put it in the garage to get him back inside. We have tried to put the umbrella back on the table twice but he is sure those bats are still inside and refuses to budge in hopes that he will get his treasure! I don't mind having the bats around but they cause my dog to be, let's just say, less than obedient!:doggie:

We put some moth balls in an old nylon stocking and tied it in the center. Haven't had any since.

I agree, the Cairn terrier family are VERY focused when it comes to prey. They are very smart, stubborn, bullheaded, and in my case my little bullhead only wanted to do what she wants to do.

You got it! And they NEVER forget anything!

Bats only need an opening the size of the width of a pencil. If a pencil can go into a hole so can bats.

They are helpful eating tons of mosquitos.

However if they bite or scratch you ..be sure to have the bat tested for rabies.
