No Midnight Mass at St. Vincent dePaul
This year St. Vincent dePaul dropped Midnight Mass. It is not Christmas without Midnight Mass!

I agree. I was raised Southern Baptist, but we always watched the Pope deliver Midnight Mass.

Why?

It felt right.

You can still watch Midnight Mass from The Vatican, but RC Churches around the Villages no longer celebrate Midnight Mass. I believe you will find Christmas Mass schedules in The Daily Sun.

The Mass is not a social event or an entertainment venue.

I believe I read in the paper that "midnight" mass will be at 10:00PM. Years ago when living in Miami and after driving home past a church with a sign that said midnight mass was at 11:00PM, I asked my wife when midnight mass was at our church. She laughed at me!! I called our church and found out midnight mass was at 11:30PM.

Midnight Mass for me.
The good: Overall pageantry with special liturgical features and enhanced musical performance by the choir with possible additional musicians. The bad: Way too many people most of whom I've never seen before (although this could be considered a good in regard to the collection basket). Overall impression for this particular Grinch who suffers from crowd-o-phobia: Been there, done that. I'll commemorate the birth of Jesus during regular daylight hours. By the way, it can't be. Truly considered Christmas unless you go down to the penitentiary and visit your Momma. |
