Tipping the shuttle/taxi drivers

We will be looking for a home in January and curious how much do you tip the drivers? Thanks in advance.

tomwed 12-25-2015 02:02 PM

I always tip $5 a person.

mrscrimefighter 12-25-2015 02:04 PM

I tip $5.00 each way. I travel with one carry on and it's just me. The drivers I have had are nice and courteous, and any time I arrive early and there is a shuttle they accommodate me.I do think tipping can vary quite a bit.

SALYBOW 12-25-2015 06:51 PM

We tip 5.00 total each way

Villager Dude 12-25-2015 11:13 PM

I tip 5 bucks per person each way.

I drove a taxi for 2 years about ten years ago. The tips mentioned above are wonderful. The person driving the vehicle isn't doing it for fun. It is a dangerous jobs sometimes also. You are all doing the correct amount. A quick two mile trip should be a dollar or two. This was a mental health self imposed break from the corporate world....I had a blast...most people are great. No other drivers got out of the car to pick up a local fare...when I pulled up to somebody's house I got out like royalty was coming opened the door and my income reflected it. Got a whole lot of comments about how I drove like a human compared to other's.

Would rent a car and explore TV neighborhoods and venues on my own when not with TV sales reps and MLS agents. Cab fare multiple times per day would be an absurd amount compared to a rental car for $30-$40/day.

Agents are too busy in winter (especially January) to spend half a day every day with just one customer.

I'd drive to all the open houses of TV every day, morning and afternoon sessions, to see many neighborhoods and types of houses, and to learn from the sales reps hosting the open houses. Seeing only what your TV sales rep or MLS agent wants to show you would be very limiting.

Right you are.
Rent a car and use your smart phone GPS and a map. Shoot lots of narrated video. Do the research before you arrive.

I'm exhausted just reading that.

looks like the winner is $5

outlaw 12-27-2015 08:40 AM

I always tip 100% of the fare. It just seems right to me.

I agree. My only thought would be to rent a golf cart for a day or two if possible. The world looks different when you are behind the wheel of a cart rather than car.

MrGolf 12-27-2015 10:57 AM

Always $5.00 per person.

Absolutely!

We came to The Villages on our second Lifestyle preview and a golf cart was included for the 5 days. Mrs. Trap enjoyed the experience of driving the cart so much that it was the deciding factor in our decision to buy here instead of St. Augustine or Jupiter.

We have one car and one cart and never have quarrels over them. Easy to schedule the out of Villages chores requiring the car and in-Villages rides in the cart.

Oops, almost forgot the topic. Yes, $5 is usually appropriate.
