Eye Exam - Where to Go?

I need a routine eye exam for glasses (both regular and transitions) and for daily wear contact lenses. What facility/doctor would you recommend?

Ideally they would accept Eyemed insurance.

Thanks in advance.

My suggestion would be Ram Eye Care Center - Ethiraj Ramchander MD. but I have no idea what insurance he takes. But, do not, repeat not, get your glasses made there. Much less expensive elsewhere, in fact we use Sam's Club.

He is a very quiet, very good gentle eye doctor. I have problems with one eye and he has been watching the progress in this eye for some time now. I also like his technicians.

Go to Peepers in Colony or Hindsight in Pinellas. Either one, you'll have your eye exam by an ppthamologist and your glasses within 24 hours

I also like Peepers from using them in the past for some minor adjustments, etc.

But for insurance purposes, I'm currently leaning toward Lake Eye Associates. Anybody have any experience with them? (I'm nearest the one on 466 near Rolling Acres, but would consider any office.)

We use Lange eye and are very satisfied, but as mentioned above, shop around for glass they are expensive.

I have gone to Ocala Eye, as they accept my Aetna Insurance. In regard to glasses, I also suggest either Peepers in Colony or Hindsight in Pinellas Plaza.

We have been going to Lake Eye for a few years and are quite satisfied, very professional operation.

I felt extremely rushed at Peepers. To the point that I question the accuracy of the exam, although it seems to be ok. I went to BJ's for the glasses, but did not have a good experience. There is virtually no peripheral vision in the lenses I got there, and they refused to send them back to the lab to be rechecked. They kept wanting to adjust the frame, despite me telling them that vision through a narrow area was fine, but everything was blurry if I moved my head even slightly. I was reading on line that Costco offers the latest in High Definition eyeglass lenses and they (Costco) got a very favorable rating. More money than BJ's, but I think the clarity from this new technology will prove to be worth the additional money. Intersting read on HD lenses at allaboutvision.com

I recommend Beacon Eye Care in Spanish Springs. Old fashion person to person Optometrist. Diagnosed glaucoma missed by one of the larger offices.

I Love Lake eye Care and Dr. Scott Holman

I go to Dr. Kathy Ireland at St Luke's in Lake Sumter. They have the latest testing equipment. I had one prescription at Peepers (so so) and one at WalMart on 466 and they were excellent.

Love Beacon but my insurance won't cover them. :cryin2:

Ocala Eye is terrific. I wear semi-permeable contacts and see both an ophthalmologist and a contact lens specialist. I've been using them for three years and am very happy. It's a busy office, but they try to be as on time as possible. The staff is very pleasant.

Okay, I have an appointment with Dr. Gutti at Lake Eye.

I still welcome comments/experiences.

Thanks for all your input.

Do not go to Lake Eye Associates!
