Deep Glass Stovetop Scratch...Help!

I'm not even sure how it happened, but I have a deep scratch on my black glass stovetop that is really noticeable. Any advice on how to repair or replace it or a contractor that could buff the scratch out would be so appreciated. Just beside myself. :cryin2:

Don't replace it-we've done it, it will get scratched again

Scratch in stove top

We had a scratch in our black glass stove top. Turned out it was on the underside of the glass and Whirlpool replaced the glass.
Is your scratch on the top or bottom of the glass?

Unless the scratch is on the UNHEATED area, I doubt that it can be repaired or buffed out. All of the glues, fillers, etc, that might be used top out at 450 to 500 degrees.
The scratch is now a weak point, and I expect that at some point it will fail, when that occurs then replace the top or the entire unit. I am sorry about the scratch, cannot imagine what would scratch this except silicone dioxide (sand paper) or diamonds.
Hope this helps.

I hate these glass top stoves. Had one back home, couldn't wait to get rid of it. Now hoping this one stops working so I have a reason to get rid of it. A scratch would probably work, wanna trade?

The scratch is on the top unfortunately.

Possibly Spring Chicken. What do you have for a trade?

Glass cookware or ceramic is what cause the scratches

I use a Brillo pad on my glass cooktop. It works. Have used one for years.

Too bad it is deep. Surface scratches often can be fixed with putting toothpaste on it, let it harden, then rub. Yes, many of the toothpastes we use are made of finely cut up glass! I switched to baking soda toothpaste for my mouth.

Usually to clean the stovetop I use Bartenders Friend from Walmart and if necessary, a window scraper (the kind to remove paint from glass) for stubborn burnt on crud making sure it is a little wet first.

The glass in our first stove cracked when the mover (who denied it) put the microwave on top of it. Whirlpool of course did nothing and we bought a second new stove. The one prior to it lasted more than ten years in perfect shape.
