Vista to 7 need help please
 

New computer with 7 and I have lost my address book with all my email addresses. Could use some help please.

I'll try.
Do you now have 2 working computers? The old one has the address book that you want to move to the new. Is this correct?
The old one uses visa and the new one uses 7?
Does this sound like your problem too?

My wife's motherboard just crapped out and I need to retrieve her emails and
address book from Windows Mail. This urgent as she uses the computer for her
business and it has literally several thousand email addresses, email groups,
and messages. The OS is Vista Home Premium. Where within the file structure
on her hard drive would I find those folders/files? Which folders/files am I
specifically looking for?

Maybe this is the solution?

Typically:
C:\Users\username\Contacts
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

Tom, I think we need someone smarter than the two of us to solve this! If we keep bumping this forward, hopefully someone will come along who can help. Windows 7 is different in so many ways from Vista. I'm going to do a computer search and see what that coughs up.:D

Tom: I found this " Windows Address Book has been replaced by Windows Contacts in this version of Windows. Windows Contacts has all the features of the old Windows Address Book, as well as some new features, such as the ability to add pictures to your contacts.

Open Windows Contacts by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Contacts."

I'll give it a try.

If not open "computer" and see if you have a folder called old.windows it might be in there.

Was the address book in your e-mail program, like AOL? If so you can install AOL software on your computer and get it back (most likely).

Do you know how to find a file on your old computer?

Search for:

C:\Users\username\Contacts

Do you know how to copy a file?
Copy the file to a usb stick.

repeat--but this time search for

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail
copy the file to a usb stick.

Copy the files to the desktop on the new computer. Open Notebook and then open each file in notebook. See if the names are there.

I cheated Tom. I have a great guy who handles my computer and he has remote access to my computer. Sooooo, this evening he fixed my problems and I have no idea where he found my addresses, but they were there. So, at this point "I'm fine and dandy" thank goodness.:pepper2:
