Outside antenna

Which would be better for reception, outside antenna on a pole or one that is mounted in the attic. Trying to cut out Comcast! Thanks....

We have antenna , it is in The attic ,
Don't think you can put one on a pole here in the 'VILLAGES '
You loose 20% reception in the attic .
The best way to go is on the ROOF ,

The roof sheathing and shingles do attenuate the signal somewhat but a sufficiently large attic mounted antenna can pull in over 50 stations from Orlando, your mileage may vary. Keep in mind that what is transmitted today is effectively a digital signal. This means you either get the channel or you don't and if you get the channel the picture is perfect. It is not like the good old days when analog signal quality could vary. You may wish to talk with Tom at VillagesAV.com.

I'm not certain, but I think you may want to check it out. I do know ham radio antennas and towers cannot be regulated by The Villages, only by the FCC and Sumter County electrical and tower codes.

Do you get good signal strength in the attic?

tuccillo 01-17-2016 07:59 PM

I pull in 52 stations from Orlando with an attic mounted antenna.

depends...the new homes have a lining in the attic that blocks attic antennas, per other threads available for search.

This Subject has been beaten to death.
The Federal government ruling preempts any state or local law, code, ordnance, association restriction, etc...
Outside FTA (Free to Air) antenna's are legal. With the new energy codes in Florida, having foiled backed OSB, which makes it impossible for a signal to get into the attic.
Some of the installers would not put the antenna's outside for personal reasons.
But i believe now they have no other choice,.
So the answer to your question is Yes they are allowed no matter what someone else tells you.
However be reasonable in appearance's to be a good neighbor.
Also remember you are putting up a lightning rod when putting up a antenna., however the chances of it being struck is like winning the lottery, just properly ground the antenna per NEC.
Good luck.
Let the controversy begin..... L.O.L.

Put it outside to get proper reception! It is totally legal but neighbors may not like it if they are the fussy type. The antenna is smaller than one of those dishes !

HimandMe 01-18-2016 06:51 PM

The dish is really small, the size if a 9" pie plate, not like Direct TV or DISH, just don't put it on your front lawn and hardly anyone would notice unless they just happen upon it.
