Computer will not turn on

My desktop tower turns its self off, and I can't turn it back on again until I unplug the power, when I do this the green on light on the back of the tower stays on. After a while the green light it goes off and I can connect and start up again. It is an old Dell computer.

I had a similar problem. Took it to Computer Corner on 441. The power supply was bad, and the power button too. $100 and it's fixed.

Sounds like a power supply problem for sure.

If you can. Buy an Apple. It's not cheap but your problems will be over. 5 years all good.

Do you know the make and model number?

Topspinmo 01-25-2016 08:38 AM

If you are somewhat mechanic/electrical you can get the numbers off the power supply and go on eBay find one fairly cheap. Most older computers power supply held in by 4 screws. Simply note wiring when up clipping and remove the four screw. Assuming you know how to get the panels off. Utube has several how to's on simple computer repairs. If you have the ability you can save $. This also could be hard drive corruption. Some times old computers aren't worth repair due to hard drive corruption from years of malware/virus?

I've got old 98 HP I like playing games on the CDs are old and won't run on newer computers. I got new hard drive off bay for 20 bucks and several other parts to keep it running for intertainment purposes only. Computers after 2005 are much easier to work on most drives and parts just slide out or un clip.

It could also be a CPU fan, once the cpu heats up and gets too hot, the computer will shut down.

I agree with above, sounds like a power supply problem. I am willing to give you a hand if you are not comfortable working on the computer. Send me a PM, if you want some help.

Me thinks the OP ain't coming back

Jima64 01-25-2016 10:44 AM

The green light coming on is usually letting you know you have power on to the computer.
