Coming to The Villages
 

We will be closing on a home in a few weeks and I have heard that there are a few options to get cable, high speed internet, and phone service with free long distance. I would appreciated any suggestions on which to use.

This is dependent on where you are moving in TV. In general South of 466a you have at least Comcast, and Brighthouse, there may be a third. Some of the areas also have fiber to the house.
I suggest that you ask your question again with a specific village location, then you will get answers from people in that area.

The best part of this website is the 'search' feature at the top of the page. I found a handyman, a painter, landscaper, etc all in a couple of days. I searched for you and there are a 120 threads already about what you want to know. Here's a link

John W's search suggestion was a great idea. Just be aware of the dates of the various posts. Some can be over a year old and prices, deals, and technology change rapidly. You will also come to realize a good portion of what people post on this site is based on rumor, so don't take anything for the gospel without checking it out. I just switched from CenturyLink to Comcast. We live south of 466a. Brighthouse is another provider, based on where in The Villages you will be living. You'll find people are divided between what company is the "best". I had heard of horror stories with Comcast, however for what I want, they have better pricing than Centurylink, faster internet speeds, and much more OnDemand availability. I also think the picture quality is better, despite Centurylink having fiber optic lines. Again, it's based in where you live, and your own personal taste.

I just have internet [Netflix and Adobe subscriptions] with Comcast and cellphone service including data from Republic
Wireless. It's a pretty inexpensive solution that meets my needs for now.

South of 466A...Brighthouse for over three years now and hope to never change.........

Sadly I'll be pulling the plug soon. Offering 399 channels and us watching 10 makes no sense anymore. HD antenna coupled with Internet is all anyone really needs. Cable needs to transition to what people really need, not what they think we need.

Antennae
 

in Pa we have only had an Antennae for 20 years. It gets CBS ABC NBC and a lot of times FOX network. Also, it is up in the air over the roof line. We will be moving into Osceola Hills South of 4666A . Does anyone know which channels, networks, an antennae will bring up?

Not sure you can have a roof antenna, you can have one in your attic. If you search for the threads, you will find there has been plenty of discussion on the subject on here. Before you buy or move, make sure you understand the covenants in The Villages.

Some of the newer houses have attics that are line with foil for energy conservation. Having an antenna inside the roof isn't so much an option for them. Having an outside antenna, whether for over-the-air or satellite reception, is an option the government says HOAs and covenants can't stop you from having. However, Florida is the lightning capital of the country, if not the world. I'm leery about mounting an outside antenna for that very reason.

We're moving to our house in TV in about a year and are also investigating what approach to take. Should we "cut the cable" and go just over-the-air and supplement with streaming services over the internet? If so, which services? More and more are coming out (CBS and BBC are on the way) and I shudder at the idea of teaching my wife which service through which device to go to in order to get the many shows she currently watches (though once we get down there we'll probably be too busy having fun to watch so much TV!).

This topic is almost as bewildering as which cell service to get for the best reception (I hear Sprint, but would like to hear from more folks around the Village of Dunedin to be sure) and whether it's time to stop bothering with a land line. I don't like the expense of a land line but I really don't like carrying a cell phone around either.

It's great having choices! It's confusing having too many of them though!
