Tierra del Sol Sunday Breakfast Buffet

We got up on Valentine's Day and I suggested that we go for breakfast. We decided to go to one of the country clubs and Tierra del Sol is the closest to us. We didn't know that they didn't open until 9:00 and we had arrived at 8:25. So we took a little ride. We had heard that La Hacienda also had a Sunday breakfast buffet so we took a ride down there and they were closed.

So we killed a little time and headed back to Tierra del Sol. We got there a few minutes after 9:00.

There was no one there to greet us or tell us where to sit. After a few minutes a woman carrying a cup of coffee came in behind us and said that we could sit anywhere. So we sat ourselves and waited. After several minutes a waitress came and asked if we wanted coffee and brought us some. There were about eight other people there and everyone was sitting and chatting. I got up to look and there was no food at the buffet.

Servers and preparers were walking back and forth. Finally at about 9:15, Jenny says, I think the buffet is ready. No one told us so we went over and sure enough people were getting food. A line of about twelve had formed for the omelette and carving station so I just grabbed a few things off the line and figured I'd get an omelette later. I grabbed a piece of French toast, (there was no syrup) a couple of pieces of bacon, sausage and some grits. At the end of the line were some blintzes with a compote next to them. There was no serving ladle in the compote. I was finally able to track down a waiter who went off to get a serving ladle.

It wasn't until I sat down that I realized there were no eggs on the buffet. Jenny said they probably were supposed to be in the empty spot on the buffet line. I agreed and thought that I'd grab some when they came out.

We finished what we ate and there was still a big line at the omelette station so I grabbed a few more things from the buffet line. Jenny had a few more things and we were full. We sat around and had another cup of coffee (Tea in my case) and decided we were too full to eat anymore so I asked for the check.

Just as the server brought us our check a guy comes out of the kitchen with a tub full of eggs. It was 9:45.

I paid my bill and we left, never to return.

The food was OK, not great but I can't complain about it. But whole operation seems very disorganized and very amateurish.

Oh, I found out later that the woman that walked in wth her cup of coffee and told us to sit anywhere was the manager. Now, I wonder what the problem could be?

Surprised La Hacienda was closed. Orange Blossom Hills country club has an excellent breakfast buffet.

I looked on line and couldn't find anything about it. I'm really surprised that so many restaurants don't have a web site. Often when you google a restaurant you get sent to one of the sites that does reviews.

won't last long

when the snowbirds leave and the crowds are back to normal this type of buffet will shut down because too many people won't return after one visit and the bad reviews are posted. Too bad the manager could not be contacted about the visit.:icon_hungry:

Tierra del Sol Sunday breakfast buffet has been going on for quite a few years and is very popular year round. Hacienda Hills CC also is an excellent Sunday breakfast buffet and is enjoyed year-round by Villagers and guests.

Every time we eat breakfast there we bring a cherry danish to dad at the nursing home. He loves them. All the pastries there are good.

Our friends had a great breakfast buffet at La Hacienda today. It's one of our favorite places.

They have the best bacon and biscuits and gravy in the villages.:icon_hungry:

Not a big fan of the buffet concept. We find many times the food fair to mediocre and service nonexistent. We gave Bonifay's breakfast buffet a try a few days ago with another couple and was not impressed with the food or the service.

Sorry you had such mediocre service, Doc. I am wondering if the Sunday Buffets are more like a Sunday Brunch and get started later, like 10-2.

If that is the case, you should have been informed that you were a bit early and given info as to what time to expect the buffet to be ready.

In any event it sounds like very poor customer service, which results in poor PR for the restaurant. You would expect managers to understand that. Communication is the first function of good management.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope the rest of your Valentine's Day has been good enough to make up for the start of the day!

Their Facebook page indicates that the Sunday Breakfast Buffet is from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

I saw that. No where does it state that they have a Sunday Buffet Breakfast.

We used to go to Tierra Del Sol, but the filthy conditions, the crud in the cracks on the bar edges-were too much-lots of cleaner and better places for meals & drinks.

we had the same experience at orange blossom about 4 months ago when the snowbirds were not hear and it was not busy. walked in and no one to seat us finally a young man came up and i asked him how he was and he said he would be better if he was not there. the food also reflected his attitude. cold, nasty, sparse and not worth the money could not get a second coffee to say our soul. have not gone back and will not.
