Cyv

My wife and I are considering purchasing a CYV and have two questions. Are they attached to each other and when inside your Villa can you hear through the walls what is going on next to you. It is not uncommon up North to be able to hear right through the walls to the next apartment.

Tnx, in advance, for responding to this question.

I'll bite. What is a cyv? The only definition google could give me was a specialized 1,000 watt bulb. I doubt this is what you were referring to in your question.

Cyv

Courtyard Villa. Sorry

K2 I have a CYV. Stucco and Block. The villas are not connected. They are individual homes with a courtyard and fence on all sides. The Villas, upscale homes are another story.

We had one

My wife and I had a CYV for about 5 months and while we truly liked the villa, a bad apple neighbor spoiled it for us. Even though our other neighbors were great. No, the villas are NOT attached and no you cannot hear through the walls as they are about 20-30 feet from your walls. You do sometimes though have to watch for the "lawn nazis" and "driveway police".
Their entire existence seems to be to bother others about things that are not their concern. (You know the type!) Anyway we got a better place for the same monies and our neighbors here mind their own business as do we.

Courtyard Villas are detached houses, not town houses. There are no common walls.

We have a CYV, very quiet, no problem with neighbors. We love the privacy of a Villa. So do our dogs.

I think most neighbors in TV are good neighbors, who are respectful and courteous. But no matter what neighborhood you choose, or what type of home, there is always the possibility of a "bad-apple busy body". And we all pray we don't move near one of those!

Cyv

Tnx all for the info. As we will be snowbirds until our house sells, a CYV appears to have less maintenance during those months we are not in TV. I am not quite sure why I think they will be less maintenance, but I am going on that assumption now.

Actually they may be the same amount of maintenance or perhaps a little more. It's my understanding that one is responsible for the fence surrounding their cyv if maintenance/replacement, is necessary. Can someone in the cyv's verify or correct thisinformation?

Sab? What does a lawn nazi do? What is the difference between being chatty and getting to know each other and invading each other's privacy?. I want to be a good neighbor and I already have received one shovel use and three pieces of pie and many smiles. I am kinda............talkative. OH dear.

Peachie 11-09-2008 08:46 AM

GG, I think a lawn nazi holds one to the covenants of TV's and you don't get to spam the lawn and plug your driveways but I'm not sure. Hopefully, SABRMnLgs will clarify that for us, I'm also curious as to what that means.

Russ_Boston 11-09-2008 09:32 AM

First - the use of the word Nazi is hurtful to some and should not be used if possible on this forum in my opinion. I didn't even want to write it.

I think the definition used here refers to someone who tries to enforce the rules of the TV deed restrictions and I don't see why that should be an issue. Everyone signs the rules when they close on their home - no surprises.

K2at - Check out the TV website for current used/new homes (including CYV's) and you can see that they are not attached and some new ones have no grass to cut every week so less maintenance.

We have a CYV and replaced most of our grass with river rock to ensure we'd have low maintenance during the months we are absent.

But it is Florida, and we've found that weeds grow on and around rock! So now, in the months we are absent, instead of paying someone to cut the lawn, we pay someone to weed and cut the bit of lawn we keep for our dogs.

Also, I am amazed at how vigorously shrubs grow in Florida. Some grew three feet in the six months we were gone.

I think is is almost impossible to have no maintenance unless you concrete everything over.

Peachie 11-09-2008 10:52 AM

Good call on "that word", Russ and I didn't like it as I typed it either. :agree: I am still interested to know if cyv owners are responsible for maintaining/replacing damaged fences surrounding their yards.

Russ_Boston 11-09-2008 04:14 PM

I've seen other posts on here (especially near the time of the tornado) that indicate that YES the CYV owners are responsible for the fences/walls. I would assume that a shared wall/fence would be shared cost as well.

SABRMnLgs 11-09-2008 08:35 PM

Lawn Nazi

I will leave it up to each individual to draw their own conclusion here but it kind of gets the idea across.

Grab your Webster's Collegiate and look up these three words:

A: Nazi
B: fascist
C: autocratic

Now forget about the political arena in which these words were spawned and try to loosely apply the total definition of the three to one's own lawn.
You may agree or you may disagree. Which is fine as that is the way we are brought up, free thinkers.
