The Word "Kersplash"
My daughter is reading a book for school. In this book I have found a word used several times and I can not find it anywhere in any dictionary. Thought I would ask some of you internet guru's to help out!!
The way the word is used...I can figure out what it means....similar to kerplunk....is that even a real word? Anyway...let me know what you find if you feel so inclined!! |
kerplunk is on dry land, kersplash is in a liquid
:evil6::evil6: |
I would think it would be related to water...for example....s/he went "kersplash" in the pool.
What is the name of the book? As a teacher, I'd like to know. I would think that the meaning of the word could be figured out by using context clues in the text. Have you tried that? Children's authors usually don't use words that can't be figured out if you pay attention to the context of which the word is being used and the theme of the story. |

http://www.harpercollins.com/books/9...eef/index.aspx Shark beneath the Reef is the name of the book.....and yes it was easy to figure out what they were talking about...and the 11 year old got it as well....however what I found ODD was that none of us could find a definition in any dictionary. I even checked the Spanish Dictionary as there is a lot of spanish influence in the book. |
Kersplash is just a play on words. I'm sure the author assumed kids (as well as adults) could figure out the meaning since it is closely related and associated to the term kerplunk of which most people know the meaning.
I apologize but I'm scratching my head why this is worthy of a new thread? |
