The Rabbits Ate My Roses? CHOMP. CHOMP.
 

I was so happy with the drift roses I bought at Lowe's. I had planted one and two were still in the pots waiting to be planted.

One morning, I saw that one of the potted ones had a nice big bloom that had been chomped off but was left on the ground. I was not happy but I lulled myself into a false sense of security by thinking the thorns on the plant had made the chomper stop. Yeah. Right......

The next morning, all three of the drift roses had been tidily pruned to short stems with some remaining leaves. Not a bloom in sight. If we were back in Ohio, I would suspect a whitetail deer, but here, I think it had to have been a rabbit. There is no evidence that it was a big animal.

My hibiscus were left untouched. I sure hope they stay that way.

Anyway, has anyone had any luck with fending off rabbits -- in a nice way?

I know there are things to buy and sprinkle around, but do they work?

No hasenpfeffer recipes, please.

Thanks, 2B, but fences are not my style. Besides, a fence would kind of take the drift out of drift roses. Thanks for trying to help though.

I am hoping to find something that will make those wascally wabbits just move on.

Years ago, every Garbage Eve when the garbage went out, I sprinkled cayenne pepper on top to keep the neighbor's dog out of it.

If I thought that would work on wabbits, I would try it. Even though now cayenne pepper is pretty expensive........But not as expensive as finding 3 new drift roses CHOMPED ALMOST TO THE GROUND. :swear:......Oh my! Please forgive me...... I really must try hard to contain myself. After all, everything I know about opera, I learned from a rabbit.

But if they get my hibiscus, I am going to be really mad. Really, really mad.

We have hibiscus in big pots every year. We have rabbits quite often and they don't bother the hibiscus. I don't know if we are lucky or rabbits prefer other plants.

try fox urine sprinkled around your garden. it is available at ace hardware. but use it sparingly it does smell.

You might try mothballs.

They are pretty plants. Why don't you grow some.
There is a product called treetanglefoot essentially a sticky glue smells like pine. It will last most of the year. Oh, when you get it on your hands most any oil will take it off-you can use cooking oil-corn oil kind of stuff.

OP, You might also try human hair, from your local hair dresser or barber shop. I have seen this work with other nuisance animals, not sure about wabbits.

Maybe look at the ground around the plants for poop that looks like pellets. That could be a rabbit sign.

Plant some clover in the open fields...they'll find it....I like seeing rabbits.....okay...I can hear what's coming already but hush....it's Easter.

Oh, I'm sure. I just SAW HIM! We pulled into the driveway and THERE he was! That wascally wabbit was caught in the headlights...........

I didn't plant any clover. Instead, we had ourselves a little talk.........

Fox urine was used as an adverse stimula to treat pedophilia. It did not work, nothing worked.
But...
I had the "opportunity" to smell it. Trust me, you love the rabbits.

My boxer goes into a tracking frenzy when she smells rabbit.
Catching one is on her bucket list.
Her instinct is to kill it??
Then,would the bunny be like her Elmo stopped talking toy, and she would not do the carnivore thing.

Speaking of flowers, has anyone reading this ever gone to the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival? If so, any suggestions?

I have been reading about it and thinking of going later in April. If we do go, we would probably stay a couple of days.

Also, any suggestions for restaurants and for hotels inside the park?
