the best thing in the villages. And that is the friendly nature of everyone. We have lived full time in Winifred for 2 plus years. Everyone is SOOOOO friendly. You cant walk or ride past anyone without a wave and a smile.

We just spent 3 days moving furniture into a brand new home for the in-laws in the village of Bonita (a rental until they move down in May). There are at least 5-6 families already on the cul de sac street. No one stopped by to say" Hey" :ohdear: We drive up and down the neighborhood and no one waves or smiles (we always wave to them). Same thing at the Bonita postal area. The wife is so disappointed.

Come on people. I know you come from up north where no one knows his neighbors, but this is TV. Please start drinking more of the water or make some kool aide.

I have never had that problem in Amelia. Everyone is very friendly.

sorry you had bad luck, in our patio villa in Hemingway, lots of people stopped to talk to us, and we stopped to visit plenty of others,

Jeffy, I don't think your in-laws need to be concerned!! When I moved to TV, I was a bit disappointed because no-one in the neighborhood stopped by to say howdy. Now I know a lot of neighbors and they are wonderful.

If your in-laws are friendly and outgoing, they'll meet a lot of friendly people at the Town Square, the pools, and doing activities and joining clubs.

There are probably monthly neighborhood parties in Bonita. In no time at all, they'll know lots of people. And don't forget to bring them to a Crispers luncheon, third Friday of the month.

They're probably all from New England. We're a little up tight there. Neighbors may or may not introduce themselves when you move in, but if your in a jam they'll be there for you.

When we moved in to our established TV neighborhood many neighbors dropped by to make themselves known and fill us in on the neighborhood details...no pressure. The nice thing about this is at our station in life, with no kids, it's not so easy to meet new people so folks that are a little more outgoing are good me thinks.

Hopefully, as the neighborhood dills in things will change.

No, we are not too worried for the in-laws. We realize the villages friendly attitude is contagious. This was really more tongue in cheek than worry. I am sure that just about all the new areas start like this and then the people are pulled over to the "friendly and happy " side. The differences were very striking to us though. They have six months before they come down full time so maybe by then the newbies will become swayed. :a040:

I think it is for another reason. At first, in a brand new village, people are VERY busy getting furnished. I think they kinda want to invite folks in and are waiting to get a place for them to sit and a cup for them to have coffee. At least it was true of us. We were very much enjoying the getting settled phase and then we went out and knocked on doors. Everyone was VERY friendly.

GG, that is a very good observation! The first two months after we arrived were a blur of shopping for clothes, linens, small appliances, dishes, palm trees, etc. It didn't help that we'd decided to buy all our furniture at Bargains and Treasures so we had to visit there several times a day to get the 'treasures'.

After a couple of months of frantic shopping, we came to our senses, started to relax, settle in and meet people. TOTV was our lifeline to meeting new friends.
