Black Friday

:MOJE_whot: WARNING: Stay indoors today. It's a Zoo out there. OMG, I can not believe the packed parking lots at 4:45 this morning. Kohls, Sam's Club, Walmart, K-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City. First, where do you park. Then how to get into the store. It has to be really crazy inside. I was like, "Good thing I'm not shopping today", I sent my wife to help out the economy. She has harder elbows (comes from jabbing me for snoring. I think she just likes bruising me as well, because sometimes I'm still awake) I'll be happy online shopping instead.

Amen, why fight the crowds when you can stay at home and enjoy the Thanksgiving Dinner leftovers!!! By Sunday, the volume of shoppers will have thinned out and everything will be back to normal.

I know a few people who got up at 4:00 this morning to get in line for the special sales! :ohdear::

One of the great advantages to getting older is FRANKLY, WE JUST DONT GIVE A D---! :mornincoffee:

Got up at 2:00 am today. Got to Office Depot at 2:30. I felt like Amazing Race player. I was 3rd to arrive. Employees started arriving at 4:00. It is a very orderly process now. At 5:30 the manager came out and handed out vouchers for what ever you wanted. If you got a voucher you were guaranteed the product.I was there to get a laptop that they advertised at least 6 at each store. This store had 16 in stock. Paid $349 for an HP 15.4 screen, 3 GB memory, 160 GB HD.

They restricted how many people came in at a time. When the doors opened at 6:00 everyone was very orderly as we were all assured we would get what we wanted. No pushing , no shoving. Everyone proceeded , still in order of arrival, to the customer service register where you presented your voucher, got your stuff and were on your way.

Most of the smarter stores have done away with the pushing and shoving and elbowing and line cutting that used to go on.

Kudos to Office Depot.

Jeffy, I'm impressed. You must have really wanted that laptop to line up for 3 1/2 hours. Wow. :mornincoffee:

Fireboy is out now looking for a Wii Fit. I hate crowds. I wouldn't go shopping today if they were giving things away free.

Everyone was nice!

Not bad at Best Buy this morning at 11! I actually bought a GPS and a cell phone at Circuit City for real good prices. There were two very helpful sales clerks at Circuit City. In and out. Loving the sunshine. On my way to watervolley!
Driving and parking could of been tricky but my trip went fine.

I agree Barefoot. No way would I go out shopping today even if they gave the store away!!! The most I did was go to the shops in LSL they were crowded enough for me, but not too many reduced priced though.

Interesting, I thought Black Friday was a day when everything was on sale. I thought the stores in LSL would all have lots of bargains. I guess they have enough business without trying to draw shoppers in with give-away sale prices.

I never shop on this day...but I did go to Lowe's and got a bargin in the process.......came right back home.
Heard on the news that a security guard in a Walmart was trampled to death when they opened for business early this morning...I do not believe it was in Florida. How sad is that....

JohnN 11-28-2008 07:54 PM

here in Little Rock, I got up at 5:30, got to Staples at 6:01, it was mobbed, standing room only, found the great deal on my couple items, headed to the register, waited a half hour but got out about 6:40.

I couldn't do 3-1/2 hours, jeffy, you're a better man than I am.

nONIE 11-28-2008 08:02 PM

Very sad Beady, that a material item was that important.!

just cant imagine what makes people tick sometimes.:undecided:

ConeyIsBabe 11-28-2008 08:03 PM

Tragic !

The poor Walmart employee who was killed ! When I was searching for the news article online...... I couldn't believe the many articles of previous Walmart stampedes - seems like a common event on Black Fridays. You'd think they might adopt the voucher plan like Jeffie described !

Well, my Black Friday shopping adventure consisted of strolling along the downtown streets of Grants Pass, where they have giant 10' high Nutcracker statues, musical fiberoptic displays playing holiday music and all the mom & pop stores had sales. No crowds, no stampedes, sunny 50 degrees, and the local St.Vincent dePaul Thrift Shop had everything half-off :pepper2:

Coney,

Your black Friday sounds absolutely delightful! And your thinking of leaving that wonderful place?

faithfulfrank 11-28-2008 09:58 PM

Having three boys, I do most of my Christmas shopping at Home Depot, always on Black Friday.......I got up at 4:30, was at HD at 5am for the opening at 6am. Just like previous years, I was the first in line. I really could have gotten there at 5:30, but I wanted to be sure.

My 4 wheel drive Jeep with snow tires is now full of power tools. It was COLD out there this morning.......I CAN'T WAIT to do Black Friday when we live in Florida so I could be in shorts and a T shirt........you guys have it made!!

Now, we wait for Cyber Monday.............
