Golf Cart Seat Belts - Reasons not to wear them?

Wanted to help explain some of the history around why most 20 mph carts don't have seat belts. Hope it has a positive impact. See enclosure, thanks.

Edit: Here's a link to get to the "6 reasons not to wear seat belts" write-up:

And for those who do have and use seat belts, please use them as recommended and designed in automobiles....across the hips.

Walking the MMP everyday I can give an informal audit that states most using seat belts in a golf cart do so unsafely. The have the belt above their belly button!!!!!

In an accident they are almost assured of an internal injury.

Maybe it is because the design of the golf cart and the only place to attach the belts does not allow them to be worn safely. If that happened to be the case one may be spending money for appearance and a false sense of security.

Seat belts above the belly button is an injury begging to happen.

Given the size of a majority of cart drivers I see, a belt will only fit above the belly button :ohdear:

I like to thread mine in my belt loops. It takes a little longer but I think it's worth it.

We have seat belts in our cart. My wife wears her but I do not.

I am in the process of searching for a company to install a three point system which I believe is safer . Just a lap seat belt can cause injury

Sta-Rite Inc Carts installs them. I just got a quote for them.

I don't have seat belts so I use bungee cords so I don't get jarred and spill my drink:coolsmiley:

We installed seat belts after while riding on a warm day w/o them I looked over and my wife was asleep, sure way to fall out. We have friends that the wife fell out resulting in a serious head injury. A few years back I was the first to arrive where a child had fallen out. Fortunately she was not injured. Came accost an accident just after the driver was transported to the hospital and the police were cleaning up. Cart had hit a tree head on. Windshield was knocked out and seat was dislodged. We now wear our seat belts.

I have them on my Yamaha cart and wouldn't ride in or operate a cart without them.

There is a waiting list for 3-point seatbelts so it's a good time to get on it.

One caveat - cannot be installed on upgraded seats with armrests.

Good luck!

As the police informed me during a driving seminar, "I've never unbuckled a dead person".

Nuff said..........
