Water in Dryer Vent Hose

I have a persistent problem with water accumulating in my dryer exhaust/vent house. Every time we get some significant rain like last night I have to move the washer to get to the dryer, disconnect the vent hose and drain anywhere from 1/2 a gallon to a gallon of water in the hose.

Water comes in from the dryer roof vent during the rain storms. To me it is a fundamental design flaw to vent the dryer in this manner. My dryer vent faces south, so I may be more prone to this happening.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so how do you resolve it? Do you have a contractor vent the dryer through the side of the house?

Thanks for help.....

We stopped this by having a V shipped piece of gutter placed in front of our vent-it acts as a diverter, against wind driven rain

I would turn the vent opening to the north if possible or search for different style of vent that will deflect better. I agree bad design venting up to roof, will also plug up quicker when vented up. So IMO even if you fix the water problem you will still need to check or clean it out once year?

Who did this for you?

We do have the hose and vent cleaned annually. But the water in the hose happens 3-4 times a year.

I have never checked my vent line. The vents in TV home are really poor design and would not pass code in other states.

How did you know about the water?

It's happened to us too. You know about the water because the dryer quits drying the clothes. We thought it needed to be cleaned and called someone to do it. He found the water in the dryer hose, trapped in the bottom of the U of the hose.

Warranty and the roofer and the plumber went round and round about this for over a year, blaming each other. Finally we implored Warranty to intervene more vigorously, and somebody came out and repositioned the vent. I can't remember if it was the roofer of the plumber, but now we have no problem.
