Lawns - A Fungus Among Us???

Part of my lawn is starting to green up, but some sections are very brown with split blade ends and only a little green at the tips. One of the lawn service companies told me my lawn has a fungus that's causing this problem and it needs to be treated. When I look around my village of Lake Deaton I see lots of lawns that look like mine with large areas that are brown. Is there a fungus among us? Has anybody had experience with this issue.....and hopefully found a solution?

Thanks.

Our fungus was red and yellow, especially where dogs use the lawn. Now have mole crickets that are causin brown spots. They look gross, deans is killing them as we speak.

Mole crickets are tough to kill, but Dean's has done a good job so far. It takes persistent follow-up to keep them under control.

That's interesting. We had Dean's for 7 months, during which time we frequently complained about the condition of our lawn. They never mentioned a word about mole crickets or a fungus. They seemed to be clueless. Glad to hear they're doing a better job for you.

Dean's mows our lawn. It was the guys that were mowing that knew we had mole crickets. Dean's would not have known until the next time our fertilizer was due. Even the guys that mow lawns have a clue what a mole cricket does to the lawn

Get a diagnosis from UF master gardeners...
You don't know what you have.

Unfortunately it's easy to figure out if you have Mole crickets. They leave behind what looks like mini gopher holes. Piles of earth (sand) and a clearly visible hole that enters the ground at an angle.

And if you have a dog, they hunt them down.

Unfortunately the best mole cricket baits in pellet form have been removed from the residential use.

Lawn Fungus

I too got the "fungus" (large brown patches) and immediately went to Lowe's and got some "Cinchbug" killer and another small bag of "Lawn Fungus" killer and 3 weeks later my lawn is like new. I have 2 neighbors that has spent a fortune on "lawn maintainance" programs thru Deans and Masseys and I laugh everytime I think of the money they waste as their lawns look terrible and I spend maybe $50 a year on bug and fertilizers and saving my $$$ to pay for all the "illegals"... after I'd dead and gone! :beer3:
