Automobile Title Question

Hi - another beautiful day in The Villages!!!
I have a question about my CT car title. I went to get my new plates the other day, and they took my car title. In its place, they gave me a paper entitled "State of Florida Application for Vehicle/Vessel Certificate of Title". My question is, does that mean every state issues its own automobile Certificate of Title? I thought owning your car outright meant you were given a title that didn't need to be re-issued. Anyone had experience with this? Thanks for any info.

State by state

Pea,

Car titling is done state by state, regardless of whether you own it outright or have a lien. Part of the process of moving to a new state.

True - you have to obtain a title for your car where the car is located.

However, I am concerned that DMV took your old title and just gave you an application for a Florida one - I believe they should have completed the application with you at that time and submitted it (like they did with our car transfer last January).

Also, titles usually have an attached notice of transfer to the original state that needs to be sent in to that state (CT) notifying them that the title has been transferred to the new state (FL). If you don't tell CT that you now have a FL title, CT will continue to send you a annual license renewal and charge you late fees when you don't pay it.

Peazoup ........ I went through this about two weeks ago....your new title will show up via USPS in about 7 business days following your visit to the DMV of FL

thanks all so much. I should have paid more attention when I was there making these changes. Perhaps the Application for Title is just a copy and the original was sent off by them because there is no mailing address on the application. I will however notify CT.
TOTV is just the best site. A wealth of information with just a few keyboard strokes.
