Watch Out For Ducklings!

I was returning home today from golf and driving my cart along Talley Ridge Drive and there was a mama duck with her brood of about 8 ducklings crossing Talley Ridge Drive by one of the golf course ponds.

I put my cart in the middle of one lane and stood on the other side of the ducks in the middle of the other lane until they had all crossed the road. Only one car driver appeared angry at my action (I assume that is why he gave me the finger) but the other cars on both sides didn't appear to have any problem with my road guard action. Most of the drivers smiled.

I am not sure how the Sheriff would have appreciated it but basically I don't care.

This is the time of year when ducks walk their babies across streets. Please be careful. Thanks.

Same thing this morning at 8:30. A mama and ducklings crossing St. Charles. Fortunately safely.

Sandtrap: This is not a judgment or opinion but an observation.

Are you speaking of a multi-modal path or actually Tally Ridge road? Regardless, except for potential consequences your actions would have been by law construed to be negligence. Sandtrap you sent up a trap for oncoming vehicles. You placed a ducks life over that of a human being and perhaps your own. If a vehicle were unaware of your presence you would have forced that vehicle to pull left to avoid you and into traffic heading in the opposite direction ie created the circumstances for a head on collision or perhaps pulled right creating the circumstance for more bodily injury and property damage.

In the Twin Cities for example this time of year it is not uncommon for geese with goslings to cross the interstate drivers naturally respond no one blocks the highway.

As I recall you once posted that you intentionally drive in the left lane on 466 at 45mph to keep traffic at bay ( ie from exceeding the speed limit.) You seem to have taken it upon yourself to police the area. Your intentions are admirable but many a bad road is paved with good intentions. Please be careful we enjoy your posts
