The Original Mattress Factory Not Pleased

I took delivery of a mattress and box spring from The Original Mattress Factory in Spanish Springs near Winn Dixie; the delivery men were terrific, but the mattress and box spring I had purchased was not to my liking as I looked at it after the delivery men had departed. I called Dave Zambito, the salesman with whom we had dealt, and he asserted there was nothing he could do to work with the situation. The mattress and box spring had been in my house fifteen minutes, but Mr. Zambito simply assured me there was nothing he or the company would do to ameliorate my dissatisfaction. So I want others to know that items purchased from The Original Mattress Factory are a SALES FINAL transaction. I can't recall any other local company that wasn't willing to work with the customer when an unsatisfactory situation had arisen. I would identify TOMF as a "buyer beware" type of company. I hope this post will help others as they shop for mattresses and box springs.

As soon as the plastic wrapping was removed from the mattress and box spring, you owned it.

It's now called a used mattress. That's why you have to make sure when you buy it that it's the one you want.

Depending on the problem, you may have other options. For example if it is too firm, you may be able to add a topper to soften it a little. If the box spring is too soft, you could add a sheet of plywood (3/8 inch seems to work well) to stiffen up the feel.
Hope this helps.

I have never dealt with this company that you were talking about. But I do know there are mattress places locally that will let you try out the mattress for 30 days or less and if you do not like it then they will order whatever you want otherwise and you can pay the difference if the mattress is more. I have no idea what they do with the 30 day old mattress but they do not resell it they state. I ended up having to do that because the first mattress I picked obviously was not the correct mattress. I had absolutely no problem trading the mattress and before the 30 days was up. That is what you call customer service!

Sounds like reasonable advice but the OP wouldn't know if it was soft or firm. They didn't sleep on it before deciding they didn't like it.

This is not industry wide policy. I dealt with a mattress company many years ago that changed my mattress out two times over a year until I finally got one I liked. Way above and beyond customer service.

Great company that makes a fine mattress. I wouldn't want a new mattress that someone bought, used and returned. It is just one of those things you need to be sure before you buy.

I agree. Can't imagine getting one that somebody slept on for a month or more. The only option I can see is if someone returns a mattress, it would have to go in the trash. That could get awful expensive for a company.

I personally would never buy a mattress from a place it could not be returned or exchanged if I were not satisfied. There are many, many businesses that advertise that policy and personally would check that out thoroughly before I ever bought one (and get it in writing). We bought our last one through Costco.com mainly because of their incredible return policy. We read tons of reviews on the one we chose before we bought it and we love it after 3 years. If we had not, we could have returned it for a full refund or exchange. In fact, we could even return it now if we wanted to. Costco is great and why we buy everything we can there.

This is a really good company with quality products. They have level pricing and don't try to game you with two for one etc. We were very happy with our purchase and delivery. We bought our mattress in Virginia while testing them out at a local store. They made the arrangements for delivery from the Orlando office. The delivery was dead on time when we were in The Villages. We are happy customers of theirs.

He is correct. You can not return a mattress and I believe it is the law. Unless they were not what you ordered such as the correct model and firmness you own them.

I agree except that we tested the mattress at a local store in OHIO.

The Mattress Firm has a satisfaction guarantee for 30 days or so

dotti105 06-08-2016 05:40 PM

Have you seen how many mattress stores have popped up lately? And not just here. There is a Mattress store from one chain on another on every major road placed about every 1/2 mile. I would say there is plenty of profit in the Mattresses bussiness!

Many do offer 100 night satisfaction guarantee, or 60 night, or 30 night. With the profit margin, they all should. Unfortunately this is a buyer beware situation, you have to know their policies up front. Mattresses are not cheap, and with stores on every corner, they have to have huge profits. They can afford to dispose of unwanted mattresses with the profits they have. Just look at 441. There are brick and mortar stores everywhere you look. New one going in south of Brownwood on 44.

I would report them to the BBB, and seniors against crime. Not that they can help you, but your experience may help someone else.

Hope you can make modifications with a topper etc, that can make you happy with the mattress. It is a very unfortunate situation.
