Alfie's Taven - Ocklawaha FL

Four of us ventured out to dine at Alfie's Tavern on Saturday night. We were seated after about a 15 minute wait for a table (sat at the bar for a drink). Our experience at the bar was great and unfortunately it was the only good service we received all night.

Our table waitress was nice enough but not terribly competent. After a long wait, we ordered our dinners and waited for over 45 minutes for the food to come out of the kitchen. At that, only two of us received our dinner (the shrimp dinner had to be sent back because it way overcooked). It appears that one of our dinners was absconded with by another waitress who served it to patrons at one of her tables. They did serve our vegetables while we waited for our dinner (instead of serving them with our meal). By the time of dinner was served, the other couple in our party had already finished their dinner.

The ultimate insult came with our bill...the waitress informed us that to apologize to us for our long wait and unsatisfactory food, the "house" would deduct $5 from our bill. Well, you guessed it...when the bill came, no deduction. And, the waitress disappeared again.

This was one of our worst experiences dining in the region around the Villages and it is unlikely that we will venture back to Alfie's. We will go to Eatons Beach and Gator Joes, however. Our experiences were good with both.

The Vgs Gourmet Club and Trip Advisor both rate Alfies much higher than can be supported by our experiences.

We went to Gator Joe's for the first time Saturday night.

Sorry to hear that. We go to Alfies every couple of months, usually with about 8 of us. Always good food & correct orders. Never had to wait too long & service was good.

Our group makes periodic visits to Alfie's and the food has been good and the service excellent and friendly. I do not drink when I go out and redirect calorie count for food.

We went with some friends recently and had two tables-We both ordered at same time with a different waitress at each table-We had our food and finished eating before the other table got their food. The waitress was no help, the manager was called over and his reply was "sorry, some kind of mix up in kitchen"

We have gone to Alfies many times in the 5 years we have been here. It is not a gourmet restaurant but a local place that has been here a long time. While we don't look for exceptional food and service, we look for a good time. And we always have one.

Alfies was one of my favorite places for breakfast until they stop serving breakfast a year or so ago.

Try the Dam Dinner, great breakfast.

Ok, I'll bite . . . Where is the Dam Diner?

Dam Diner is a legit place. It's north of Ocklawaha. We take the road (don't know name or number) that goes north from the main intersection in town and travel a couple of miles to the place. There is a dam there, hence the name. Old building with decent food and definitely out of the way.

If you know where Gator Joes is just turn right off of 25 to get to the Dam Diner.

Doesn't it make many of us mad that we have to travel outside the bubble to find a decent eating place.. I want golf access for a good lobster pot:D
