new singles club

i had fun visiting the Sumter Singles yesterday, which i haven't done in a long time. maybe some have not heard that there is also a new group forming called ATLAS which stands for adjusting to life as single. they give a discussion topic and tables talk in groups, relevant to moving to the Villages and living as a single...the group will meet at Seabreeze on WEd, May 4 at 4pm....the first two meetings were VERY crowded so it is recommended to get there early to get a seat! i have to be otherwise occupied for the next month or so, so i hope everyone will continue to post ideas for getting together! movies, dinner, cards, dances....don't do it alone :)

I think there is a real need for a social outlet for people who are late 75+.

We have several friends and know of people in that age bracket who have lost their life partners and just want somewhere to go to talk and socialize with their own age group. I have been told by one or two of my older friends that they have no intention of every marrying again, but would like to have a companion to go out to dinner and to the movies, shows, etc. etc. Why not look into it OMTime.

Well said. I am not a single, but often think just what you wrote. With so many friendly people it saddens me to see lonely folks among us.

anyone of any age who is single is free to join our activities which i and others suggest on this site...we have a few very feisty older folks who can outdance me, and i am no spring chicken either. please tell your lonely friends to watch for Meet and Greets or to contact me by pm and i will try to help them meet a few people. a few nice friends is more desirable than going to a club with 500 strangers. we help each other, care for each other, and have a lot of laughs together! OldManTime would enjoy himself! :)

I am a single woman who just turned 70. I would like to find a small group of women who would enjoy companionship, going to movies and other fun activities. It can be very lonely in the Villages.
Thanks.

Chax3 .......... you just have to be the nicest person on this site. Your posts always seem to be looking out for the single and lonely. If, at some time in the not so near future, I am in the position of needing help, you are the first person I would call.

On the other hand, over the past year or so, there have been many postings making it quite clear that the new clubs are for baby boomers only which (I think) would be very intimidating to an older single.

While I have been doing my "Monday morning clean up thing" I have been thinking about your post and these are my thoughts on your situation.

If you have moved into an older established neighborhood it probably will be difficult to find companionship, but there are ways of getting around this and I don't mean by taking cookies door to door until someone invites you in;). I frequent just a couple of Rec Centers and I notice that there are always small groups of people playing cards or sitting and talking in the reception areas. Why not put a post on this site suggesting that anyone in the same situation as you might like to meet for a miniature meet and greet at one of your local Rec Centers. It stands to reason that not everyone you meet will be compatible with your personality, or you theirs .......... what's that old saying "you have to kiss a lot of frogs .................". If these short meet and greets hook you up with just one person you like you could both go from there to try out the various singles groups.

.... and the reason I am interested in this subject, is because I have a long time friend who is struggling with just this problem!

thank you, Madelaine Aimee for your concern for seniors and lonely people....that is why this forum exists...some of my best friends have come from this forum....in fact at the moment i am in New Hampshire helping one of my best friends whom i met here to get her home here ready to sell...real friendship is easier to achieve in a smaller group. it looks like there may be a few people in need of a Meet and Greet coming up soon....i will try to post one when i know my schedule of returning, etc.....or someone else can feel free to arrange one. all we do is set a time to meet on the porch of the Lake Sumter Landing sales office... usually works out fine! anyone can post it! :)
