Can't connect my laptop via wireless to Linksys router

Just arrived in TV for a first visit... will be here 3 months. I have a Linksys router connected to Comcast modem. I can connect to the internet through the router as long as I am connected with a cable. But I cannot connect wireless.

I haven't used this router in a few months, but it did successfully connect before I disconnected it.

Any suggestions on router settings that I may need to check? Or any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Comcast support

We don't live in The Villages yet, but do have Comcast where we live, and I have had excellent results calling Comcast support. They always solved my problems with modem and Linksys connections.

I do remember having to unplug all power from the modem and router, and hooking back up. Resets it.

Anyway, call Comcast and see if they can help. Good luck!

Pat

We just got a new Netgear router and had a similar problem with installation.
Turned out to be the Ethernet Cable that runs between the modem and the router, a cheap fix at Wally World.

If I were you, I'd bypass Comcast and call Linksys first. The cable company's responsibility is that you have internet connectivity through their modem. Anything beyond that is whomever you use for router. Try the reset option, but if you are still having problems, call Linksys support at: (800) 326-7114

I'd suggest you reset the router with the button in back. Depress it for several seconds. If this doesn't work, press the reset button on the Comcast modem. If you still don't get a successful wireless signal call Linksys help first. If you call Linksys, start by telling them you had a wireless signal previously and that you've already done the reset procedure. Good luck!

Could the problem be that your network is secure and you are not using the network key? I think on the liksys page you go to wireless network and then use the netwowk security tab to see a list of "Network Keys" use one of them to connect. I am not a pro on this but I am sure there is someone out there who can help.

Wireless is connected!

Thanks to all for your suggestions. Unplugged the router for a few minutes, replaced the ethernet cable from the modem to the router (would never have thought of that), plugged the router back in and voila! Connection was made.

Now, please bear with me... somehow the security was disabled. I can call Linksys tomorrow, but if anyone knows how to set up security, it would be wonderful... I can try it on my own, but after finally getting wireless to work, I'm not sure I want to change anything on my own.

Go to the Linksys setup page. In your browser line and type in the IP address. If you are not familiar with the setup page, call Linksys. It would be too hard for me to walk you thru it here.

there's also a computer tech guy here who advertises, and he'll help you out at some reasonable hourly rate.

Why spend money when you can get Linksys for free?

CTGolfer - If you can't get the security working just PM me with a phone # and I can walk you through it. Russ
