Inside Air/Heat System Coverup
 

Is there anyone that has built something to enclose their unit in the laundry room? It is so ugly and I would like to enclose it. Thanks for your help.

Whoever does it for you be sure to see they ventilate the area properly.

The HVAC system needs an adequate source of air to properly heat or cool.

Most people put white lattice panels around it, making a door in order to change the filter.

Saw one with vertical blinds. Can't remember if it was open at the top. Looked simple and allowed easy access.

I at one time, in our last home, hid our ugly unit in the garage (go ahead and laugh at me, who cares about what the garage looks like right?) behind curtains which I hung from a rod on the ceiling. I left about a foot at the bottom and a foot at the top to circulate air flow and it was reasonable and decorative. Just a suggestion ....

Mine is there, by the washer/dryer. None are very pretty. It is a utility room that is a pass thru to the garage. Maybe a less wattage lightbulb? Cool paint job? Whatever you choose make sure it breaths and easy access for to be maintained and repaired.

Also keep in mind that besides the unit needing to be properly ventilated you need to provide enough spacing for servicing of the unit and future replacement.

Not so sure about ventilation. If you have a heatpump vs. a gas furnace/AC, it isn't clear you need ventilation. For example, my heatpump airhandler is in a "closet" off the garage. There is no ventilation and it came this way from the builder. Call your HVAC contractor to be sure.

How about using lovered doors...make sure the slats are open some are permanently sealed up....a more expensive version would be to ask the shutter guy to be innovative but put a cap on the price.
