Dryer Vent Cleaning
 

We had Desmond Harris (352.308.9243) come over to clean our dryer vent flu. The technician's name was Jason. He showed up on time, actually 10 minutes early, was very professional, took the time to explain what he was doing plus why. I highly recommend this company. Cost was $55 and money well spent.

With normal use by two people, how often should this be done?

My house is 17 years old, haven't done it yet-guess I'm due.

Clothes taking a little long to dry?

We have a two person household and we have it cleaned....yearly. Once you smell the burning lint once that will do the trick. N44125 $55 is sale of the century. Beautiful, the cheapest here is Duct Dudes @ $125....still worth it. They have a truck with enormous vacuum bags about 8 of them and it pulls all the lint and anything that isn't nailed down through the hose.

Desmond is cleaning my vents next week and also changing the batteries in the smoke detector.

Slide the dryer out of the way, remove a couple of simple clamps from the dryer hose then clean it with a toilet brush or similar object (it vents straight outside).

It's not rocket science.

Total time is about 15 minutes and you save a whole bunch of money. :shrug:

I do my own, but moving furniture, climbing the ladder and hoping you get it positioned correctly to reach some of the taller ones (if not, you have to then climb back down and try again) can be a pain in the rear (or hip/leg/arm/head...if you fall :p).

At our age (assuming you have a tall enough ladder to start with), having someone replace smoke alarm batteries isn't such a bad idea.

Someone once told me that you can call the fire department and they will do it, but I've never tried it so don't know if it's true.

You can buy a kit at lowes with a very long flexible rod and brush attached to a power drill. Very easy to do without getting on a ladder. Once you buy the kit, you can use it forever. Don't forget to clean the lint out of the dryer itself with the brush they include

Yes, the fire department will change your smoke detector batteries. You must provide the batteries and a ladder.
