Greens at PGA TPC Sawgrass Today

Is it my TV or do the greens look tired and worn out? And we're complaining about our greens here in TV?

waynet 05-14-2016 06:48 PM

they are smooth and running at about 13. Are you kidding me?

waynet 05-14-2016 06:51 PM

the greens are pure smooth and running at 13. Village greens never, never, never have been as pure.

If you watched Thursday and Friday play, the greens looked good, were soft and resulted in the low scores. The PGA decided to cut shorter, roll twice, and not water to firm them up. Unfortunately, between the low humidity, high winds and beautiful sunny sky's, they dried out. They called the perfect storm. Hopefully, they will figure out tomorrow morning. PS- the greens were closer to a 15 which is almost impossible to put.

Yeah...don't let the appearance on TV fool you. They may have gotten slightly faster than officials wanted, but they are smooth, pure and near perfect.

I'm sure they wanted to put a stop to the ultra low scores of the first two days. Mission accomplished. [emoji851]

Agree but I think their concern is with more wind, sunny skies and less humidity tomorrow, they could get faster, scary fast! Should be a great final round.

Fast greens put sooooooooooo true; sort of reminds me of the greens at Tarpon Boil after they sprayed them to kill them out; they were dry, hard, fast and true.

They looked like crap.

The were definitely faster than the tournament officials wanted, but I'm not so sure that they were putting true. I saw a lot of balls bobble off line in the last few inches of putts. You also need to realize that the faster greens get the more the ball is going to be affected by imperfections. The slower the ball is rolling, the more it's going to be affected by breaks and bumps. It's also difficult to keep a ball online when you have to hit it s softly.

I do realize that, but I also know that I putt way better on hard, fast greens than I do slow, soft greens. To each their own.....

Very hard, very fast greens = higher scores.

The pros just kill courses when they can shoot directly at the flag and putt aggressively at the hole. Scores on days 1/2 vs scores on day 3 is just the latest...and very extreme...example. Conditions rarely change that dramatically over night, as they did this Friday/Saturday.

As do I, but I'm not sure that either of us has putted on anything like what we saw yesterday. I read somewhere that they were at 15 feet. I've played US Open courses that were at 13 feet and I can tell you, it's scary.

For most of us 11-12 is very fast. Thirteen feet is scary. Fifteen feet, I can't even imagine.

All the greens are being replaced after the tournament with a major rebuild of the course according to the golf information people.
