Sonny's IS coming to Sumter Landing
As stated in a thread further down, it's a fact that Sonny's BBQ is going to open up in the old Whiskey Creek location.
We had lunch today at the Sonny's in Belleview and talked to the manager about the rumor. He confirmed it and said they plan to open around 5/1/09. They will have a full bar, but no salad bar. We just hope this one makes it longer than the one in Wildwood did. We LOVE Sonny's. When we first moved here 4+ years ago, we wished for four restaurants ~ Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Sonny's, and one with really good Mexican food. Needless to say, we're thrilled that we'll be able to take the golf cart to three of the four. Now, we just need that really good Mexican restaurant.... |
Sonny's is passable ---- infinitely better than Bono's, but I definitely would have preferred the earlier rumor of an Oakwoods. :eclipsee_gold_cup: All in all, I'm just glad to see the bldg filled and it will make a great convenient spot for our guys' lunch. :icon_hungry: I'll even have my teeth back by then (hopefully :MOJE_whot: ).

Great News I've been a Sonny's fan for about 25 years.

[QUOTE=Cinco;181884] We just hope this one makes it longer than the one in Wildwood did. We LOVE Sonny's.
The Sonny's in Wildwood was built anticipating TV doing the build out as planned with Buena Vista opening on CR44. The delay caused them to close that location. But they indicated it would be reopened when Brownwood is completed. This was in the Leesburg paper this summer. |
I absolutely love Sonny's!
Whenever we go to Florida we always eat Sonny's Real Pit BBQ! Once, I went 5 years without a Sonny's fix. We got off the plane in Orlando, got our baggage and a rental car and drove straight to the nearest Sonny's!:a040:
You guys in TV really do live in Paradise. |
Yesterday, while sitting in the barber chair getting my hair cut, I eavesdropped on the conversation in the chair next to me. A local realtor and barber were discussing the closing of Sonny's on Rte. 44. I politely interrupted and asked about Sonny's and LSL. The realtor replied that the Whiskey Creek location is still up for lease, and after hearing this rumor, he checked with the Sonny's head office. They stated that Sonny's has not negotiated with the land company about leasing the building. I hope he is wrong, but we all know about TV and rumors.

I have received (from an informed source) that Sonny's is currently in discussion with TV for a lease in Lake sumter Landing. If and when this comes to pass I will let you'all know. Keep you fingers crossed.

Personally would rather see a Tony Roma's or Bobby Rubinos. Great ribs at both places.:bowdown: However don't know if either is still in business. Ahh!! what good memories...:icon_hungry::icon_hungry:

I have had good meals and bad meals at both Oakwood and Sonny's. Actually the best ribs I had from either of these two was at the Sonny's in Wildwood which went kaput. They were moist and meaty.
It would be great if Buddy from Buddy's in Wildwood would open a restaurant in the Villages but alas - he sold the business and retired and the new owner went under - not as good as Buddy's recipe. I am just wondering exactly how much support any BBQ restaurant will get in the Villages. It is a niche food and I am not sure that it will be a big seller. Just my opinion. |
I favor Oakwood for ribs and will continue to travel for them....:eclipsee_gold_cup:

Great!
Never been to Sonny's, but we love Oakwood. I'm definitely going to give Sonny's a try though since so many of you like it! ;)
|
Have never been to Sonny's or Oakwood. Thursday I went to a place called Sunset Harbor Marina in Summerfield. The ribs were great
|
I've had the BBQ at both and they are pretty comparible, My wife who isn't a big BBQ person (but she humors me) like the chicken at Sonny's.
Hopefully if we get a good BBQ resturant in TV the people will support it. Both places have a pretty diverse menu which is not limited to ribs. |
I was wondering if this is the same place my parents took me to about 40 years ago? Has this chain been in existence this long?
We went to Sonny's in Miami, or was it Shorties?? LOL It has been a long time, and the cold weather tends to freeze my brain! http://www.millan.net/minimations/sm...ezinsmile2.gif |
