Dirt???
I know this is a strange question, but does anyone know where to get dirt analyzed? Our neighbor thinks that two spots on our land and one spot on theirs might be toxic from something spilled there by either the builder or pesticide people. Nothing grows there! Grows beautifully everywhere else.
Any suggestions??? Thanks |
Extension Office
Chels,
I'd try the Sumter County Extension Office. They cover agriculture. (352) 793-2728 F16 |
Here in Jersey, we have agricultural centers that will do that for you. Check your local phone directory or call the college. They should be able to direct you to the nearest one.

Thanks!
Thanks so much for the tips. That's what I love about this forum -- you post a question and a minute later -- people put you on the right track! :coolsmiley:

Chels, try this site, I didn't have time to read it but it might give you a clue... http://www.drgoodearth.com/?gclid=CI...FQkcHgodoCFmDQ

Yes!
Thanks Kath, that will help a lot! I bookmarked it! :)

I would try the University of Florida since they have an Ag department.

Yes, I believe they have a question and answer forum 2x's per month. They bring in Master Gardeners and put on a meet and greet....QA session. FREE of charge!! You could bring pictures and samples....they would probably love a mystery like this... |
Hahaha!

Chels,
Another possibility..... there might be some construction debris (wood, concrete, etc) just under the surface that is preventing anything from taking root and growing. This happened in one of my houses up north. So, get vetman to probe down in the soil a bit and see if he runs into an obstacle. |
Yeeks!
07! Vetman - probe - soil? Hahaha! You know him by now! This does not equate! :ohdear: But, for the heck of it, I'll run it by him.
Thanks so much, all of you, for your advice! :) |
For Rent or Free Digger
Sadie Mae can excavate voluminous yards of top soil. I will send her to you asap. She also consumes :icon_hungry:several pounds per day of youkuhhoweverthehellyouspellit dog food. :D

Check the yellow pages for "Environmental Laboratories". The State of Florida "certifies" commerical labs ... the approved labs must pass inspections and quality control samples (aka "tests") which are distributed to them once or more per year (depending on the matrices). I urge you to use only a "certified" lab.
