Tee time reservation viewpoint

Why look at only the issue of paying for "tee times" via the internet. Communities the size of The Villages across the country are getting totally free access to wireless interent.

Well said, and 784caroline, in a small way you do get free hi speed internet access at the Regional Rec centers.
Granted it's not at your home but better than nothing.

Oustider,

Actually, I agree in principle with what you wrote. Where I diverge is how much is a fair price/cost for the people who use the system? Up until recently, the cost for non-Comcast subscribers was $5/month; this was increased to $8/month 6 months before all the comcast subscribers roll off their 'free' service. Unless the Developer has been heavily subsidizing the development and operation of the tee time system, this represents an enormous increase in revenue. I don't begrudge him his profit for operating a business but this increase does appear to be out of proportion.

Where your analogy to the car wash falls apart is, with the car wash there is competition and comparable alternatives.... I can go to a number of other places to get it done. With the online tee time system, there are no comparable alternatives...the phone system is not equivalent. There is no competition...it is a monopoly and the large fee increase smacks of price gouging.

I'm all for the users of the system (and not all residents) paying for their subscription and the operators making a fair profit. My gut, and this will probably be very hard to prove, is that they will be making a windfall. And, that is not fair.

Outsider...i could not agree more...i just posted a (way too long) post on this forum under a similar topic regarding this issue

it is amazing the furor that has been created by this issue.....we are giving (sor far) $350b of our money to companies ...that created this economic crisis...some of which are not notifying us that they are raising our credit cart interest rates dramatically...but...i guess thats ok.....but some are going crazy about a $96 per year increase in access rates to the on-line T time system

its a simple choice....let the user pay the freight...or...cancel your subscription and use the phone system

soneone was compaining about TV's "free" golf...i.e. 3 rounds per week at the championship courses = $5000 per year.....i can't get a round at a "championship" course here in NY for under $50...that would be $7800 per year......i'll take the 5 grand any time....and there is no one forcing anyone to play the championship courses...u want free golf...play the exec courses (plus the train fee of course)

i just don't understand the logic.

No reason to pay the trail fee, do like I do and walk the executive courses, that makes them free.

RIGHT ON GOLFNUT...and.....i bet your ticker is better for it too...compensates for those missed putts ;)
