Yes, Publix is a good grocery store and are ranked number two in the country. But could they learn a lot from number one.

On a recent trip to Publix I had a dozen things on my shopping list and could not find 5 of them. These were not strange things. I asked for help. They could not find them. They went and got the manager and he was able to find 3 of the 5 and swore they had the other two but couldn't find them.

He apologized and noted they were the number two rated store. I asked if he had ever been to number one? The answer was no. Publix should have every manager visit number one.

The number one store is Wegmans and has been for many years running. And they are slowly moving South just as Publix is moving North. Wegmans unfortunately is moving South slowly.

There is such a gap between number one and two that it is hardly believable. When I was back in Virginia I was in Wegmans and I asked an employee for those same 5 items. They took me to all five. Every employee in the store must know where every item is located. They go through extensive training. Not really necessary if you use their web site and smart phone app as the app will tell you where an item is located. You build your shopping list on the web site and when you print it, it will print a store map showing where every item is located. If you select one of their recipes, just click add items to shopping list and they get added automatically. The stores are clean, have EVERYTHING, and are priced competitively.

So if Publix wants to stay number two they need to send every store manager to a Wegmans for a couple days. Because when the two meet somewhere in the Carolina's, Publix will lose. I have seen several stores close their doors when a Wegmans is built near them. There is a Harris Teeter very close to the Wegmans I frequent in Virginia and they are slowly going out of business.

I am sick and tired of hearing about Wegmans. They are not here! If you all miss them that much move back north. In the mean time, we have Publix, Winn-Dixie, Aldi and Wal-Mart. Find your favorite.

BTW, have you tried the Publix app for you phone? You put in your store location and the item you are needing and the app will tell you the asile it is located. Publix is my number one for this area!

Never heard of Wegmans. I'm from Massachusetts/NH, no Wegmans there.

There are at least 4 Wegmans in Massachusetts.

Thanks for taking the time to post the link to Publix and also to Aldi's. I shop Publix, Aldi's, Fresh Market and sometimes WalMart and Sam's. Being retired I have the luxury of shopping around for the best products and best prices - all is good!

I was in WalMart last weekend and was very surprised at how good their produce section looked. I have to believe they have a new Manager, but whatever, their prices were excellent and their produce was excellent. I bought a huge yellow special melon (absolutely delicious) for less than a cantaloupe at the other stores.

I think we have it all. I came from Mass/NH and my store there was Market Basket, they are very very good, but they are not here and this is where I live now so I shop the stores that are here! :smiley:

Chris. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Wegmanns. They must be terrific. I may be one of five people on this earth that loves to grocery shop. I was a huge fan of Krogers, until we moved here. I really enjoy shopping at Publix now. I did try Fresh Market again last week because many people on this forum really like it and it was o.k. but I couldn't quite get the hang of it. And also the area where they store the carts needed a good cleaning and the carts could use a bath too.

You never see a dirty cart at Publix or junk left in them. The Publix on 466 always looks so fresh and clean. I like that.

BUT.....the best cookies are to be had at Winn Dixie. That store manager is doing a terrific job. I think his Winn Dixie is the nicest I have ever been in.

May I get up on my soapbox with microphone in hand and request that Trader Joe's come to The Villages?

This post is not very tolerant. The poster had an opinion and suggesting to leave is not very Villager Friendly. Some of us are interested in areas other than our own little paradise.

I accept your comment that Publix is your number one for the area. Perhaps not the same with others.

I have been in many Trader Joe's in California in the past 20 some years.

Imho Fresh Market beats them hands down.

I do not live near a Wegmans but have been to them in MD. They are incredible stores. Texas has Central Market, about as great as Wegman's IMHO. However, neither of these are in business where I currently primarily reside so I shop Gelsons, Bristol Farms, Mother's Market, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Costco, Von's, Stater Brothers, Albertsons, Ralph's, Santa Monica Seafood, Growers Market, Growers Direct,..

When in Florida I love to shop at Publix. "When in Rome do as the Romans do" is how I do life. I enjoy what is available where I am. I do not lament or complain about what I do not have available or am missing. I enjoy what I do have at hand. What a great country we live in; we have more choices and opportunities than anywhere I have been (79 countries at last count)!

visited a Trader Joes in Southern cal a few years ago, very nice store. Publix is very clean almost always, and walmart has good prices and unhappy employees plus dirty carts. Where I shop depends in what I need, including BJS and Costco and the prices.
