Freeze and Palms
 

Not being down there yet, what can I expect to happen to a palm planted in August, regarding the cold weather you are having in TV? Thanks!

What kind of Palm?

Royal Palm that was about 15-20 feet tall when planted in August. Thanks!

The Royal Palms are not particular about soil.
Light: High light requirements. Likes bright sunny conditions.
Moisture:Royals like water and look their best when given adequate amounts. At home in cypress swamps, the Florida Royal Palm tolerates occasional flooding. Likewise, the Cuban hails from the dry hills around Havana and it is somewhat drought tolerant.
Hardiness:USDA Zones 10-11. Can survive cold spells down to 28 F if short in duration.

Royal Palm should be OK. Plus it would be really, really tough to cover a 20 foot palm tree with frost blankets. :shrug:

Becky, if you have someone watching your house, ask them to take a pic and email it to you. Should be no problem.
