No Love Bugs in May?
Not that I'm complaining, but, did you notice that we had virtually no lovebugs in May?
We have lived here 10 years and this is the first season I've ever seen that had no lovebugs. Anybody know the reason? |

I noticed the same thing, saw a few, less then a dozen, and that was it! Did all of the additional spraying for mosquitoes have an effect on love bugs? Maybe the weather had an effect.
OK we need an expert here, definitely not me....... |

I was in TV in May and my bride considers me a Love Bug.

Same observation in Spring 2009
Lovebugs have been notably absent of late | Ocala.com and 2006 Lovebugs - how bad are they? - Orlando Forum - TripAdvisor and 2014 Experts say weather behind lovebug decline | TBO.com But I agree, far fewer this year. Hopefully it is not because we have messed up the ecosystem, because something will fill the void. |
Whatever happened to them...:a040:

I noticed I didn't see any love bugs, but I'm not complaining!
|
They all were squashed on windshields last year due to the increased population in The Villages
|
Global warming killed them off?
. |
Didn't see many this year.....ssshhhhhh...we better not speak too loudly or the little beasts will take their revenge come September...:D:D:D

Growing up in St. Petersburg, Florida since 1959 at age 9, I really don't remember seeing love bugs until about 1975. I can remember that because that year I rode a motorcycle the entire year to work and everywhere else, I didn't own a car.
The love bugs at that time were not scattered about, but formed large black clouds visible from a distance. I remember very vividly going out on a Sunday ride in the country and seeing that black cloud up ahead and wondering what it was. My face mask and clothing soon found out. I made a u-turn and headed back home to clean up after that. We really didn't have them in town, I lived in Largo, that's between St. Pete & Clearwater, but only when I was out in the country that day. |
