Lanai and taxes
We're thinking of putting glass sliders and a/c on our lanai.
I have read many previous posts and was confused about what would cause the taxes to go up. Went to Sumter County Tax Appraiser and was told: ONLY removing your sliders between the house and lanai would cause your taxes to increase. Adding a/c does not cause tax imcrease. But new regulations since Jan. 1, 2015 state if you add a/c the glass must be low-e glass. |

Here is my take on this ... The sliders between your house and lanai are an exterior door. Therefore you lanai is assessed as a covered porch. If you remove the sliders then the lanai is assessed as another room in your house, thereby increasing your assessment. |
Not sure the purpose of the post.....you got the right information from the County, what do you need from this thread?

Tax assessments are public records. Look up a couple of neighbors that enclosed their lanai and check their history.

The purpose of this thread was to share imformation since there were so many conflicting opinions on this subject.
I thought it might help others thinking of enclosing their lanai. |

Tax Increase--How Much
I went to the Sumter County Tax Appraisers office today to see just what the tax implications will be when I remove the sliding doors to my lanai when I upgrade it.
The lanai is 12X26 and the tax increase will be $195 per year. That's not much.:pepper2: |

It is too much. One buck is too much. Remove the doors after the inspection and have a real nice dinner on yourself & spouse. |

I found out after posting this that you CAN do single pane
sliders if you use a AC split system with a dehumidifier. |
