hello my dear thanks for accepting me my name is Esther Krane a widow
whose husband died from a brief sickness that lasted for few days.
Presently as I speak with you am suffering from a long time cancer
which the doctor said I have only few month to spend on earth. On a
faithful day when I was sleeping I had a great voice saying go into
the world and give out what have used to bless you and your late
husband so I woke up and was shocked so I prayed and fasted over it
and I realized it was the word of the Lord God presently as I speak
with you the only thing I have access to is the 6.8millionUSD my
husband deposited in a bank when he went for a business trip. Can you
please help me get the funds out and donate it to the less privilege?

Now not so private. :spoken::

Probably someone from Lagos, Nigeria as that is where most of the letters I got on the early 1990s had postmarks from and were variations of this.

They make you feel special and then try to fleece you. She would probably ask for $10,000 for bank fees or something like that.

And they use such innocuous pictures of people as well as names.

My old employer sent $3500 to a person who claimed to be selling a Doge Charger. The entire thing looked and sounded legit. I advised him not to do it because as we know if it's to good to be true....well he lost the money and we lost our Christmas Bonuses. Such a smart man overtaken by greed and a momentary loss of logic.

The words "private" and "Facebook" are not compatible.

Actually, Facebook's private messages can only be seen by you and the person sending them.

That's certainly the way it's supposed to be. And we know nothing ever goes wrong with online stuff. :)

Well, of course, there are exceptions to that I suppose.

Facebook seems to be a very well run company.

To each his/her own, Tal. But putting personal information anywhere online has an inherent risk that will never be zero. I simply think it's prudent to not put personal information anywhere online unless it's absolutely necessary and done with due diligence.

I agree that Facebook is a well run company. It's the folks that put private info on Facebook whose actions are questionable in my opinion...not Facebook.
