Century Link Outage?
We live south of 466a and have no dial tone on phone and no internet. Does anyone know of an outage? Went online to Century Link and did their test on my phone line and says there no problem with account or reported service problems. BTW, had internet service this morning.

We have Century Link and all 3 services are working now. Monday night into Tuesday afternoon, however, we had nothing. A service technician finally came yesterday afternoon and in a short while discovered the problem and corrected it. Turned out there is a back-up battery for the landline phone and this battery needed to be replaced. The battery affected not only the telephone but the internet and television.

If you want to buy and replace the battery yourself, buy one at Home Depot. The battery is in the aisle with the "Exit" signs. Take the old battery with you. Home Depot salespersons may not be familiar with this item. It costs about $30.00.
Easy to replace. Our tech told us it is VERY important to connect the negative terminal first, then the positive. That's about all you need to know. |
Where is the battery located, and where do you check for light out??

Not all houses have the same system and some don't have this battery at all. But, if yours does, the battery is inside the panel on the garage wall that holds the irrigation controls. Underneah the irrigation controls. It says CyberPower on the cover that's over the battery.

We had lost our Century Link phone/internet last summer. We called on the cell phone and a tech came by about two hours later. He checked and said the battery in the garage, which provides backup service in the event of a power failure, had be hit by lightning. We had a bad storm a couple of days earlier, he said that is probably what happend and it just was able to stay working a day or two. He replaced the battery and all was fine. We've not had any outages since then, we're located just north of 466A not far from Seabreeze Rec Center.
