Since State Farm is leaving Florida, who is providing insurance that is a large ins. company?

Most large property insurers are represented here in The Villages. I notice an advertisement for an Allstate agent on this site. Anyway, I suggest you either contact an agent locally or do some searching online for your homeowners insurance - based on your comfort level with that type of insurance. One thing, ask about golf cart insurance as part of your homeowners policy as some offer it, some do not, and some do with restrictions. Finding it will not be the problem but deciding what to buy and from whom may be!

If you have AAA the local office has insurance reps who quote out various companies. We found their quotes to be slightly less than TV insurance. From what we have found Allstate has the lowest golf cart rates, typically around $65 per year.

Don't be deceived by the big name agency.... I believe if you call the local Allstate office, they will give you quotes for other lesser known companies they underwrite for. You are not getting Allstate proper for your homeowners. At least, that was my experience last summer when I called them.

We deal with Sharon Moussette in the AAA office on Bichara Blvd. near Spanish Springs Town Center and highly recommend her as knowledgeable, responsible, and willing to take the time to follow through. She does both our homeowners and our auto insurance, and in both instances the rates she found us were significantly lower than anywhere else. She also explained to us that if we want our golf cart insured so that we're covered no matter who's driving, then we have to go to Allstate, which we did. I could be wrong on this, but I don't believe one has to be an AAA member to use their insurance department.

Funny we got a letter from State Farm telling us why they have to leave Florida for Homeowners and all the other policies they will be cancelling. But then they tell you how they will still service your Auto and life and everything else. Far as I am concerned time to find another company to do all. I know it will take up to 2 years to cancell them all, but I figure give them till end of the year then change companies to get all insurance under one roof, unless State Farm has change of heart and the bluff dont work....

Just think of all the agents that will go out of business. I bet the agents will start to close and go independent before State Farm has a chance to "not renew" your homeowners. It's going to be a mess. :ohdear:

I had Liberty Mutual up north for 30 years. I found they weren't competitive down here in Florida, so I changed everything over to Geico. If you haven't already, don't forget to have a home evaluation done by mysafefloridahome.com to get a discount on homeowner insurance.

We are looking to move our car insurance also since SF is doing away with our homeowners ins. Anyone know anything about Allstate? we got a letter from them yesterday. They are cheaper on the car insurance...

Not FL but, here in eastern N. Carolina Allstate dropped their home coverage in our part of the state.
The bank informed us that Allstate was dropping coverage. Not one word from Allstate, especially galling since we had them for 20 plus years on our home. The agent's response was essentially "Oh well, stuff happens".
So, I would point out that you may NOT be in good hands with Allstate, and I would not recommend them for anything. :cus:

We have had USAA for 30 years and when we told them we were eventually moving to TV they said they don't do HO in FL. They would continue to do the cars but not the house. So when we do finally get down to TV we will switch everything so that we can have it all with one company. So I'm watching this thread real closely....

I see there is an Allstate agent who advertises on this forum. Ask him.

I remember seeing an article in National Geographic years ago, like 20 or 25 years ago, about the building of so many homes, so closely together, in harm's way, in Florida. Since then there have been so many real estate "booms", that the number of houses in hurricane country has probably increased by a factor of 5 or 10.

I wonder if this is what becomes of that. So much risk, financially,in such a small area that the insurance companies don't want any part of it.

And if you find a company that will insure, what assurance do we have that should a major storm destroy thousands of homes, that they would have the resources to actually pay.
