Remember Adamo Czerner? Court can't find him
Remember Adamo Czerner? He and is partner, Zenon Szynkler were arrested Feb. 5 on charges of burglary and larceny from a home in the Village of Winifred. His bond initially was set at $77,000. At the time of his arrest, he presented a Polish passport as his means of identification and also listed a Chicago address. Anyhow, the judge, William Hallman reduced his bail to $5k and he walked on April 16th. His next court date was to have been May 16th but if you go to the Sumter County Clerk of Courts and look his case up, you find several entries over the past months of "DEFENDANTS NOTICE FOR COURT RETURNED UNDELIVERABLE". So his court case never did continue as they can't find him. I guess the county is $5k richer.

I'm not sure "naive" is the word I would use Gracie. I think you're being too kind. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
I think the judge was pretty smart --
He had to know Czerner would run thirty seconds after being released, which means no more crimes in this area by him. So, no court costs for the County for convicting this creep nor public defender costs. Also, no housing in jail and/or prison (at least $32,000 a year) costs. In return, the County got $5,000. Seems like a fair trade to me. |

No argument here that this guy will continue being a thief elsewhere. However, the crime does not warrant a high bail in these parts. That's reserved for things like public lewdness, apparently. While a judge shouldn't factor costs to a county, I think it is nigh impossible for them not to. They're human.
